I am thinking of upgrading my HDD to SSD and found a good deal on a Samsung 830 SSD (2.5"), would it fit as it is only 7mm thick and I have read somewhere that the E6520 only takes 9,5mm drives? Or a spacer may be included in the box?

    Thanks.

    Hi Chris,

Still did not buy a ssd? ;-)

In the boxed version there is a spacer to create a 9.5mm disk. You can read in almost every review too.
    Contents:
Drive, USB to SATA Cable, Drive Spacer for 9.5mm drive bays, Norton Ghost 15, SSD Magician 3.0, Documentation

    Why not the M4?

    Hi lennartb,

    Thanks!

I found one on Ebay which is cheaper than the M4.
The Samsung seems to have better specs.
    Looking for a reasonable deal...

I also did same thing as you.
but unfortunately what I got is desktop upgrade kit.
I installed 7 mm ssd their in 9.5mm slot.
only thing I did ,I did not fully tighten all 4 screws holding ssd to body of laptop.

I am certainly interested in fixing the spacer if required.

How did you solve the AHCI Mode issue with the Samsung 830 SSD?

Magician shows AHCI mode (System should boot in AHCI mode for best performance)

I have windows 7 x64 and the Bios AHCI is enabled.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

Hello all... sorry but the search function is not working on the forums.... anyone consider the M4600 before getting the Latitude e6520?.... I'm on the fence between the 2.... I do stats work mostly so I'll get a quad core and 8GB of ram on either of them... and 1080p. thanks.

One question about the latitude... how hard or expensive is it to add a 2nd HD... if I get the 128SSD I'll probably have to expand.

I suggest you get quadcore from dell and install your own 8gb ram.
    I installed 8gb crucial ddr3 1333mhz ram for 29.99$.

I am also searching for caddy to install in place for dvd writer.
I did same for my vaio for 15$.
Only problem is bezel match for latitude.

Yeah I can get an outlet model with one stick of 4GB of ram from the outlet (they don't sell any with no ram) and then buy another stick..

    Thanks.

Battery question: Is the 9 cell battery that much better than the 6 cell considering it sticks out about a inch?! Thanks.
