    That is your issue then. For whatever reason, Dell uses different cables for the HD and FHD panels. The E6520 is not the only system they do this with.

    You now know what you need to get.

    I can confirm there are 3 different cables. I did this changeover about a month ago and I love the higher res screen. The WXGA cable will do exactly as you are experiencing, terrible scan lines and weird colors.

    Scott has listed the correct cable for you. I got mine off eBay but I had to buy the entire back panel assembly to get it. You want the 6XGM9 assembly with the cable that has black and red wires.

    I'm confused because what Scott says in the following posts directly contradicts what others have already said. Has anyone actually confirmed that a mpci-e ssd does indeed work in this laptop?

    The machine was replaced due to faults (how to check the which screen make I have?) and I have now a WD 500GB HD which causes vibration too, hence must be normal I guess..
    BTW there is a gap on one corner, between the rubber pad and the desk, did you also get this?
