E6520 Owner's Thread

Can I use the Dell Dockingstation PR03X Simple E/Port (part-nr. 452-10768) on the e6520? Notebookcheck.com claims older docking stations are still usable by the new latitudes.
The only reason I'd buy one is because I need a native 2560x1440 resolution for my Dell Ultrasharp (via displayport or dual-dvi). I guess the HDMI on the e6520 is not version 1.4 so it only supports external full hd panels.

Thinking about getting a E6520 w/1080p screen, Ive a few questions tho...

- I had a E6510 with the 1080 screen. Colors were dull and life-less. Is the 1080 'premium panel' of the E6520 any better? Anyone knows what the color gamut is?

- Speakers / volume on the E6510 was low. Bass was non-existant. Is the 6520 any better?

- Trackpad - 6510 had a mind of its own. It felt like it was 'delayed' and at times it'd just ignore your commands.


Any 6520 user care to comment?

 

I can speak to both, as well as the e6500.
Speaker volume is better, bass is ... well, better, i guess, but they are still laptop speakers ...

trackpad (never had the problem you're reporting for the e6510, but definitely dont have that issue on the e6520).

screen/panel -- at least mine is MUCH better (than either the e6510 or e6500). colors aren't as washed, etc. my viewable angles vertically seem to be slimmer windows though. i find i am readjusting it more than i did with the previous machines. color seems warmer (at least in direct side-by-side comparison to the e6500 (i don't have my e6510 anymore, so i don't recall 100% certainly).

I used to have an E6510 with the FHD screen. While I thought it was certainly an above-average display, I did notice the blue tint, especially when compared side-by-side with my M4400's RGBLED screen (which has an excessive red tint )




The M4400's display doesn't actually look this red in person though, and neither did the E6510's display look all that orange/blue.

Track pad on mine does the same. Not as good as my c640 latitude. I've tried reloading drivers and all the settings I can try in the control program for it. Given up for now. Basiclly it isn't as smooth in scrolling or touch commands like to start scrolling or the tapping to enter a box to strat typing or to click to confirm or enter it doesn't happen sometimes and I have to hit the left button to enter or get the cursor blinking in the box or window areas.

 

I don't have an E6520 but if it is anything like E6420 there should be a recovery partition on the original Hard drive. The factory image "Factory.wim" is normally at D:\Dell\Image.
You can restore your computer to the original Factory state by following the steps here: Windows 7 PC Restore | Dell

Curious, has anybody come up with a part number for the OEM DELL MODULAR BAY HARD DRIVE CADDY?

...or...is anybody selling their caddy?

 

just to make sure you know,Dell only will sell the caddy with a hard drive and it's $160. I called them to check for just a caddy with no hard drive and this is only what they offered. It takes only 7mm not the 9mm so you can only get a 320gb made by Hitachi or Seagate. New Modus is susposed to be making one this summer. Hopefully it will take a 9mm and fit like OEM ones due.

 

I dont really care that its $160 or comes with drive...but the 7mm part...that concerns me.

I've got an e6410 with a newmodus caddy and a 500gb WD Caviar Black drive...your saying that drive won't fit in a OEM Dell e6420/e6520 caddy?
