I am getting old and I don't want to write anything that is not one hundred percent correct. I am not sure what is in Windows 7 Ultimate that is not used by me. What I use for making copies of and restoring hard-drives is Macrium's version of Microsoft's Reflect. Forgive me for not spending the time to give a more complete answer.

The complete answer is "no". There is no factory image restore capability provide on the Dell E-Series. Nothing to be disgusted about... just a hard fact.

I recommend that you do not invite direct contact from unkown people encountered on the Internet. And that you keep your personal information and personal situation private to protect your privacy and the security and well-being of you and your loved ones.

If you are old, unsure of yourself, able to spend top dollar on bleeding edge computer purchases, and willing to communicate privately with strangers, then you are a likely target for fraud.

Thanks. I did follow your guide to reimage the machine. Sadly is confusing because many of the drivers are named differently on the E6520. I guess that is because your guide is for another machine, Now my machine is running ok. Still I wish I had the original factory install as I imagine that they did all in the proper order.

I purchased the machine in the US and shipped it to the US. Support confirmed that they are having some issues and service tags are not being updated in timely manner.

Thank you Terry for your generous offer but for the time being the problem is solved. I still have some things that do not work properly like the DELL client update. I guess I need to wait until my service tag is introduced into DELLs support system.

Overall I am disappointed at DELL for:
    • not including a factory image in the machine or as DVD
    • not offering me the option to buy it when I bought the machine online.
    • not updating their service tags on a timely manner and leave me with out the proper support.

My guide is for the E6410, but the general process of reimaging these notebooks is basically the same... get the current firmware/drivers and install them carefully in the prescribed order. Make your own notes as you go along and learn... feel free to restart once you figure something out until you get it right the first time... and then you will have your own guide and will be able to support your own notebook.

Well I have had Dell Latitude computers for many years starting with the CPX and many others all Latitudes including the present E6500 model. I am now waiting for a E6520. All top of the line portables. Prior to that for many years I had Desktops built by me. Prior to the home built desktops I used a CPM computer made by Kapro to which I added many upgrades. Before the Kaypro, I used a HP hand held that used magnetic cards written to by me (or purchased from HP) to program and accomplish navigational tasks. I did not use the Windows operating systems between Windows XP and Windows 7 but I will not argue with anyone that likes something in that range.

I am not a computer professional but as you can see from the previous paragraph I am comfortable with computers. My line of work was as an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and I have been all over the world.

I buy Dell Latitude computers because of the System Bios Setup available by pressing F12 before the operating system boots. WARNING if you are new, do not change anything, you can look all you want, but DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. Naturally you can change anything you want when you are familiar with what you are doing.

Dell also installs on the hard-drive a section that has analytic software and data that is not available to most people. The section is probably empty on computers serviced or handled by unknowledgeable people. This section needs to be copied and saved by people who know how to do so. You need software that does not come free with the computer. The best for anyone not able to copy that first section of the hard-drive is to not lose that section.

Be sure to get a copy of the operating system disk, not a copy of your machines operating system. Also make a copy of the disk you received with the computer before making changes.

As much as I like Dell computers I dislike the changes to Dell Corporation. When I purchased my first Dell computer they only hired people who knew computers. Today they hire anybody. I bought an expensive Dell E6520 with a lot inside. I want a modem useable when the others are not usable. I have three connections available on this E6500 including the internal modem. I spoke to several people at Dell and looked at pictures with labels, I am pretty sure the modem will install along with the wireless modem. (Separate slot) The modem can be added to the order for the computer that I am overpaying for but the sales person I am dealing with wanted to increase the price a couple of hundred dollars. I purchased the modem from Dell for the E6520 computer for nine dollars plus shipping. I will install it myself, although I could have them send a representative to my house to install it. That would likely cost them a lot more than what I am being overcharged.

I do not like to recommend software because I do not receive any compensation for doing so and many people will argue about these recommendations. I will make an exception here but I will not argue with anyone wanting to disagree. The first and primary is to protect yourself on the internet I believe that the best protection for the price is Avanquest System Suite. The second most important purchase is Macrium Reflect which includes a Microsoft product which you must download and burn to a CD. The third is Spotmau which I believe to be very essential. There is more but these three are basic necessities which everyone should have. I might add that I would not own a Microsoft operating system below Professional. Please don’t forget that many people will take your money and send you .

Lastly I am surprised that Dell and everyone else sell computers with only one section on the hard drive. I will not have less than three drive sections, C. D, and E. (Of course the letters may be different). If you have the software I recommended you will be able to make the required changes without ruining your operating system on C. Drive C should be used for your operating system and any files added to that operating system. The other two drives should contain your files.

    FOR UMPIRE

I was talking to someone today who said that it was possible that many people cannot find anything

on the web. I am including many internet addresses below. One of the most important to you is the

last one. You will find all of the files needed to fix your problem. If you have a valid serial

number you can see YOUR COMPUTER by entering it. I am not used to using this type of

communication. You must add the http and colon and two slashes before the addresses shown below

Well evidently you may click on the BLUE LINKS and they will take you to the desired page.

The first and last links are not in blue and require that you follow the instructions in the first message. Also the first link is two lines and the last link is three lines. There are no spaces in these lines and you must add the http and the colen and two slashes to the beginning.

Well I am amazed at the lack of any responses to my posts. I thought I was helping someone who had

purchased a new Dell Latitude E6520.

First and foremost is the fact that you have thirty days to return the product to Dell and get all

of your money back. You can then order what you want from Dell. If you bought from someone other

than Dell you are subject to whatever your agreement is. While it is possible to get a good deal

you must know what you are doing and most likely you will get screwed.

Very important is that you get a copy of your order with the price (as agreed) on the bottom and

showing all of your selections before giving your credit card number.

Also very important is that you get (at the very least) a disk with the Windows 7 operating system.

The price is three dollars (probably less when you negotiate the bottom line).

Also it appears that many people think that when they buy a computer they need not spend any more

money. Well except for the few people who never use their computer for anything but the internet

this is ridiculous. Even they can benefit from some software available. By the way almost

anything worthwhile is available to try without paying. (Along with many that are not worth

    buying.)

I must not mention products that I am trying to steer you away from, please try to understand this.

Be careful. Many of these companies spend a lot of money to reach you. This includes a product

you will get from Dell with your new computer but it is not a Dell product.

Microsoft has a website you should look at and read thoughtfully it is especially interesting for

anyone not using their computer for commercial purposes (assuming only one computer).

Buy, Renew or Upgrade Your TechNet Subscription the subscription I have will give me

anything Microsoft makes and is cheaper than buying Microsoft Word.

Of course I hope you look at my other posts because they are required.
