This low cost option fits fine in my E6410 and E6520 with the WD Black series drives: 2ND HDD HARD DRIVE caddy 4 Dell E6410 E6510 E4300 DV20 | eBay.

I am not seeing the same result as he is (re 7mm). To my knowledge, 9.5mm is industry standard for these "slim" drive bays. Again, no issues with the WD drives here.

7mm is the only size. I tried a 9mm and it won't work. 320gb is the largest you can get now for that drive that Dell makes. 7mm will only use single platter. 6520 is different. Someone sells one on ebay made for a different type drive but will fit the 6520 and take a 9mm but can not be locked in and has a different bezel that doesn't fit the lines of the 6520.
I'm waiting until NewModus makes one this summer. I have the $160 with HDD and 2 externals I'm using now so no hurry for me.

Will the e6520 take advantage of 1600 or 1866 speed memory?

No, regardless of what Sandy Bridge can handle, Dell limits the bus to 1333MHz. You can use 1600MHz DDR3 memory, but it will be clocked down to the 1333MHz. The new Precisions support 1600MHz, but they are a tab bit more money. ;)

How sure are you on this? Have you physically tried it? I read someone with a Precision got a 1866 stick to work.

I'd hate to 'leave performance laying on the table' by saving only $50.

E6520 with 2720qm does support ddr3-1600 ram. I use 2x4GB 1600 ram, and the memory score of WEI is 7.8.

Have you confirmed the operational speed? Again, 1600MHz will work but it will be clocked down. My Samsung SO-DIMMS give me the same score and they are 1333MHz. I have an i7-2720QM as well.

^When you say confirm, do you mean in the BIOS or are you looking somewhere else?
