Those are the exact modules I ordered. I have one installed right now with a 256GB SSD. It works just fine. I think where it says "only the ultra bay" it means "not the primary disk bay."

A little about it: it's a tool-less design. All you do is slide the drive into the caddy then slide the caddy into your machine. The caddy does not have a pushbutton like OEM Dell modules: you grasp it by a little ridge to pull the module out. It also has a HDD activity light. It's very lightweight, seems to have decent build quality for what it is.

Upon boot, with the module and additional disk installed, I'm presented with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology BIOS screen and given the option to set up a RAID 1 array with the primary hard disk. It would be nice if Dell would give the option to do RAID 0, also, because I know the QM67 chipset supports it. Perhaps some BIOS hacker could enable that functionality.

Just in time! I was just about to help someone order an E6520 today, but I spotted a great configuration in the Dell Outlet that includes all of the necessary upgrades plus some bonuses:

Was going to order: i5-2410M, 1600x900, 320GB HDD, Intel HD 3000, Webcam, DVDRW, ~$1250
    What I found: i5-2540M, 1600x900, 500GB HDD, NVS 4200M, Webcam, DVDRW, ~$850 w/ coupon

    $400 saved right there.

Do we have Raid with our 6520 ? I went to update the firmware for my Momentus XT to S25 from S23 and it said "Do not run this firmware update on RAID systems". Can I run the update?

Do they mean RAID capable system or a drive in an actual RAID array? Probably the later since they may not want such drives running different firmware while RAIDed.

If the RAID controller function in the E6520 is similar to that in the E6400 and E6410, then it is IRST/IRRT used only for hot backup/mirroring... and you probably are not using that... although you may have the controller in IRRT/RAID mode (set in BIOS).

You can find your SATA RAID controller device in Device Manager and then read up on it on Intel.com. Also check the Intel app in your Start menu for info.

I took a chance and tried to update Momentus XT to 25 and it was a success so I guess your right. XT's update specifys not to update if one has RAID.

    Thanks

Well I have read the responses. I realized that you may be in another country. Perhaps Dell support is not available to you. I am in the USA and I have the Dell ProSupport but it is possible that you have the cheaper support. While I do not know what is available in other countries I can tell you that the support I am trying to send you to COSTS NOTHING (OF COURSE I AM ASSUMMING THAT YOU BOUGHT THIS COMPUTER AND DID NOT STEAL IT). If you bought from a third party they will change the ownership for you and may take time doing so. If you talk nice to the Dell representitive he may help you prior to the seller sending the information. If you bought from a third party that is the worst case. But still warrented by Dell. Although they typically sell computers with the cheaper support they typically charge more than Dell. Dell sells their computers substancially cheaper than the prices people see (this is NEW ONES never shipped to some other person) Dell will also sell the computers sent back and then checked out by Dell. All of these computers are warrenteed by Dell including computers made by Dell and sold by someone else.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT THIS COMPUTER IS WARRENTED BY DELL. It is impossible for this computer to be more that one year old. Therefore it is warrented by Dell. I don't know how else to say what is here.

I am in the US and I bought it directly from DELL. I followed your advice and DELL support people was great but DELL itself dropped the ball.
Although I had this computer for about 5 day the service tag is not recognized by their site nor their support people.
Support people confirmed that latitudes do not come with an image of the original install. It seems that dell assumes that anyone who buys a latitude has an IT department to keep it up.

Conclusion: I am in the same spot with no answers. I am still baffled at the idea that a paid a higher price with less support than my older sony vaio. In the meantime I filled a form to order the image on DVDs but I never got a reply back or acknowledgement of the order.

If your system needs a new image, I recommend you download the current drivers from Dell.com and have at it. My E6410 reimage notes in my sig below should help you prepare and get it done. I would not bother installing an image from Dell... no telling what it contains or how current it is. Do it yourself and you will learn how to maintain your system.

I am reluctant to give out my telephone number especially on the internet. Naturally if you give your number (or email address) I have no problem calling you or sending a message. Before I put my number here I want to know if it will be used by you. I am old and have had Dell computers for many years. (Probably before you were born.) However my Dell's are all the fastest made by Dell. In addition I use what I consider better software than what is part of Windows 7 Ultimate (installed on my computer E6500). I am in California (Pacific Time Zone) and I need to know what time zone you are in. My E6520 cost over $2000.00 and has the fastest processor available as well as many other items not bought by the normal customer. I have not yet received my E6520 but I think I can help you, DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE E6520.

if you bought your laptop in a different country the service tag will not be recognised. you will have to ask to speak to a customer service representative.

which country did you purchase the system in?
