E6430 Owners Thread

Guys

I have a few questions:
-Has anyone performed upgrade of the WXGA (1366x768) to a hi-res screen? This is what I've searched on ebay

Do we have option for a 14in IPS hi-res panel?

-Can the e6430 accept 4th (Haswell) i7 cpu?

Guys, I will need some advice here. I'm getting a laptop refresh at work, and I wanted the "light weight" E6330, and we also have the standard E6430 for choose. I'm not doing a lot of the heavy duty computing on this laptop, so I was always leaning towards to the portability. But our IT guy just told me in the hall way that he had been suggesting to everyone in the office who asked for E6330 to opt for E6430. He told me,
1. the E6330 was not truly "light weight", may be only 1/4 lbs less with the sticking out battery than 6430.
2. With the sticking out battery, its depth was extended, so size wise not too much smaller than the 14 incher. Based on the spec sheet, 6330 should be about 2cm narrower and a tad thinner, and about 1lbs lighter with a 3-cell battery compared to E6430 with 4-cell battery.
3. I'm losing a graphic card in E6330. With E6430 I can easily hook up 4 monitors (well, not a usual scenario for me, but nice to have).
4. 6330 seems to be flimsy compared to 6430 we have here. IT guy said he could easily bend the screen lid on 6330 and had multiple cases where the HDD was failing after a drop.

So what's the real deal here, guys? Is E6330 really that bad or the IT guy is just trying to dodge the work. (He gave me a 6430 first and I realized afterwards that's not the "light weight" version I should be getting.

Update: I just put these two side by side. Well, the 6330 is still smaller, lighter, but not noticeable thinner. And the 6430 does have an extra NV5200m graphic card.

 

I doubt he's just trying to dodge the work. I have an E6430 but it's the ATG series which is semi rugged. I like it and it's held up well so far. I have the touchscreen but the resolution is low. I think it's 1200 x 800 or something. I've never tried multiple monitors but I think that's a feature on mine, although I'm not sure why because I didn't ask for it.

Got myself e6430 with i7-3740QM 8GB 256SSD win7 64bit from Dell. Wifi wouldn't switch on, so disabled switch in bios (updated). Quality is reasonable, but temperatures are terrible. Idle temp is about 56'C in 18'C room. Did virus scan, load was about 50% and temperature gone up to 90'C within couple minutes:/
Tried setting up fan for performance, but no real effect. Any advice on this? What temps you guys get on idle and load?
Also my packing slip stated that I should have samsun pm830 256 ssd, but I got micron c400 256 realssd?! Which according to benchmarks is slower?
Could somebody reccomend caddy for additional drive? I seen one link here before, but that was while ago.
Also which dvd-rw should I go for? Are those on ebay any good or should I get one from Dell?
Also I am thinking to get backlit keyboard, any advice please?
If anybody has questions feel free to ask.

Yeah as somebody mentioned here bezel around lcd is massive Looks like stone age laptop

I also have smart card reader and contactless reader. What do I need to use it? Can I make my own card?

 

Has anyone ever tried to upgrade the cpu? I currently have an i5-3320 and the nvidia NVS5200. Would like to go to a quad core i7. I think the cpu's are interchangeable, just not sure if requirement of heatsinks are different.

 

Sorry to bump the old thread, but I'm reaching out in hope of clarification. I have a E6430 with 1366x768 resolution. Will I have problems moving up to a 1600x900 screen? Or is the firmware incompatibility you speak of for the FHD resolution?

6430 doesnt take msata. Dell is a little slower than Lenovo in that dept.
