Guys, if one of you could spare a few minutes and launch a 3dmark 06 or 3dmark Vantage benchmark, I'd be grateful for sharing the results. I wonder how is the Quadro 5200 doing.

I've had 2 e6430s' (that's the s variant with the 13" body and 14" screen). They both have problems with the lid closing fully. The regular E6430's we've bought are also rather shoddily built.

Is anybody using the E6430 with an external monitor attached via the HDMI port? And found a problem?
I am using Windows7 (64-bit) and the NVidia drivers consistently stopped and restarted with the screen turning off and on.
As a hunch I disabled the OPTIMUS setting in the bios and the problem has now gone away. But apart from the now obvious working multiple monitors, I really do not know if I have gained or lost anything as a result.
I'd be interested to know if I am the only one with this HDMI display problem

    Hi All,

So I have been using my new E6430 for a couple of weeks now (i7-3720QM, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD) and before that I owned an E6410 so these are my impressions when comparing with those:

    - In general the build quality seems to be a lot better than the E6410, specially the display is a lot sturdier, I have had to replace broken bezels on E6X00's and E6X10's several times...

Ed, what are you comparing the build to? the E6420? we've never had one of those but judging by the comparison pictures in this thread seems to me very similar although they got rid of the plastic around the ports which makes me think the connectors may break internally if you are not careful.

    - The display is considerably smaller than the E6410 (just a bit wider but a lot less height) even though the laptop itself is bigger than the E6410 and the black frame around the LCD is huge... Seems to me like a waste of space which could have been used on giving the user a lot more screen real state without making the laptop bigger...

    - The keyboard distribution is different having the Pg Up and Pg Dn on the lower right corner with the arrow keys, not a deal breaker but I'm finding it difficult to get used to this new distribution.

    - The lack of light sensor is a big minus and as mentioned there is a ton of space there to put it, for me it was very useful to have the screen brightness auto adjust to the room light.

    - The power adapter seems cheaper, I really like the ones that are flat and have the blue light in the tip, it quickly lets you know if the adapter is connected / working up to the laptop itself. so I'm keeping the E6410 one!

In general I'm happy with the laptop and the specs are really good, it is a very fast PC but the LCD size in relation to the laptop size makes me thing I should have research more before getting my new laptop, instead of just going with the newer model of the one I had... I quickly looked at the new Lenovo T430 but discarded it because it is not available with a QM processor...

Does anyone with a backlit keyboard know what the part number is? I got a new laptop for work but it didn't come with the backlit keyboard and would like to get one. Thanks in advance.

To answer my own question. The non-backlit keyboard part no. is: 0C7FHD which is the same as the e6420 so I would assume the Backlit keyboard from the e6420 would also be the same (part no. is CN5HF). Looking at the picture on ebay it looks the same.

I got my 6430 with the Intel 6300 wifi card, and most of the time it works fine, but now and then it doesn't activate after suspend, both from Intel rapid resume and normal hibernate. Using the latest drivers from Dell.
The wifi LED is off when it doesnt work, I can bring it back to life by disable/enable from network adapters control panel.
