Regarding the responses to my question about the backlit keyboard - thank you very much. It appears that there is no ambient light sensor in the E6430, which seems a bit odd, given that the E6430 is marketed as being a "premium" model and at least one older model in this series (E6410) did have the sensor. However, it is not major shortcoming.

thank you for posting the pictures!

    I have a few questions:

    1. Does the e6430 come with 3 antenna wires for the wifi card, even if you do not get the 3x3 card?

I ask because there is a ships-fast config that ticks most of my boxes at about $200 less then I can build on my own. The exception is that it does not include the centrino 6300 3x3 wifi (just the base dell 1504). If I order the 6300 from new egg... I am just wondering if I will find 2 antenna wires or 3 inside the laptop.

    2. Which battery is shown in the pictures? Is that the 6-cell or the 9-cell? I would prefer if the battery did not protrude out of the back of the laptop - also I am willing to exchange less battery time for less weight. However I do not know which, if any, would stay within the form factor of the laptop. It may be a moot point - as the ships fast I site above comes with the 9-cell.

    thank you.

mine has 3 even if only 2 are connected
definetly not the 6 cells one, I think it-s the 9 one

Mine with the 6 cells battery last for 2.5-3 hours on linux(i think I have the nvidia always enabled...), never tried on windows

Thank you! So - does the 6-cell stick out of the back? or is it flush with the back of the laptop?

    Thanks.

The 6-cell one is flush with the back of the laptop, the 9-cell one sticks out of the back...

Hello guys, could anyone please comment in more details on heat issues and battery time (on windows, in prediction that all drivers has been installed and web serfing usage profile is tested) ?

I`m considering this laptop for heavy everyday usage involving a lot of CPU load (GPU would be mostly idle though) and I would take top config with 3720QM processor.
At the same time, I need to be able to surf for at least 5 hours on 9-cell battery.

For me, heat is only an issue when both cpu and gpu are loaded. 5-6 hours websurfing is possible with the 9 cell battery. probably even a little bit more.
