It could be due to a difference between the two optical drives, who knows. Mine still won't pop. I'm going to stop messing with it, lest it decide to start popping.

^haha good idea. I guess its good to know that it IS possible to have a non-popping bottom panel. I shall see what Dell comes up with for a repair fix.

I have an e6520 and it has movement on the front corners too. More on the DVD side than the left corner. I'd say about 2mm.

The only (minor) peeve I have with this system is that the Windows 7 resource DVD doesn't have SP1 slipstreamed. Windows Update found it just fine, but for those of us who like to clean install, it's nice to have the service packs on the disk! Note: I'm not sure if the pre-installed OS is SP1 or not.

Today I received the E-Modular 320GB HD. It is a 2.5" HD but it is the thinner type.

I tried to put in my 500GB standard 2.5" drive and it will fit but the top plate cannot be put back on. The bulge in the center of it is too thick for it to fit into the laptop. Right now I have it installed in the laptop without the top cover.

I will probably dremel out the center this weekend, that way the connectors are protected.

Keep us updated! I have delusions of grandeur about carrying around an extra terabyte in mine.

Is the top cover really necessary? Ghetto though it may be, would electrician's tape do?

What is the exact type of 500GB drive that you have?
    Is it 9,5mm or higher?

Specs on the 320GB drive in the picture show it to be a 7mm drive. I don't see a Hitachi or Seagate drive that is 7mm that is larger than 320GB.

Edit: Hitachi does have a 500GB Z5K500 which is 500GB but only 5400 RPM.

Tape = Temporary... then a mess, especially in a warm notebook. :)
