Yes, the new 8x60P Elitebooks are far more attractive than the E6x20 range. Yes, they have native USB 3.0. But the real downside is that Elitebooks are much, much more expensive and HP is just about impossible to deal with if you've an individual or small business owner. Either you buy preconfigured models from resellers, or you pay through the nose.

Yes, it is a shame that a useful feature got nixed. The same goes for the slimline power adapters. Was it cost cutting? Well, we can't say for sure, but it does look that way.

I wouldn't get too excited about the issue of weight. I've seen weight variances between E6410s that just could be explained by hardware. Why would a lower spec E6410 weigh more than a higher spec E6410.

For the sake of argument, you should assume that an E6410 would weight a little more than a E6400/E6410 - so figure on 5 pounds, more or less. If anything, the new MIL standard design weights more, which makes sense, because the last generation didn't meet that standard.

Often, people only speak up on message forums when something goes wrong. We need to determine whether this case separation is a build quality issue or a design flaw. So, if you have an E6420 in which the case does NOT separate, we'd love to hear from you.

    Hi,

I have a question about screen size on 6420 compared to 6410.

    In 6420 there is a 16:9 screen , while in older 6410 there is a 16:10 screen.

My question is about the size.

The 6420 screen is actually smaller on height than 6410 which is understandable due to screen ratio.

But is the 6420 screen longer on weight than 6410 ? Actually on the posted pic, the both screens look the same weight, while 6420 is smaller on weight.

    Thank you

    David

Hi linuxwanabe, I have looked for Elitebooks - but I am having doubt on the durability and long lasting life of HP Laptops. I am using Dell for past 5 years and found them quiet sturdy.

Can you or other group members suggest about their experience or view about HP EliteBook 8460p w.r.t Dell Latitude E6420.

    Per someones request.

Both laptops have SSD's and the DVD Drive along with the extended battery, BT backlit keyboard, webcam, fp reader. The 6410 only has a single 4GB stick of memory and the 6420 has 2 - 4GB sticks. The 6410 also has the Latitude on Flash (completely worthless!)

The 6420 has the 1600x900, it does not have the touch screen.

Which screen is on the new one? The touchscreen would be the heaviest because of the glass over the screen.

Thanks for this. If I read the numbers correctly that puts the E6420 at about 3.5 oz / 0.09kg heavier than the E6410. That's no surprise considering that the E6420 has a wider chassis while the front-to-back dimension is similar.

My E6420 does not. I can take photos, but I'm not sure if that'd be useful or not...
