Hi, perhaps you can try removing the ram and reseating it. If you have two ram modules, I'd try to boot with a single one first. (Try both on by one.)

I had something similar happen to me and reseating the ram helped. The modules weren't bad or anything, just needed to be placed properly.

Today I got hold of a used Latitude E6410. It didn't come with an AC adapter. Is it OK or risky to use an unofficial AC adapter, that is, one made in China and made by some outfit having no relationship with Dell? The one I've ordered is this unofficial kind and it is for the Latitude E6410 (plus probably another one or two models).

If the voltage is correct, it will probably work (but not charge the battery). OEM Dell PA-3E adapters are readily available, so I'm not sure why you would get an aftermarket one...

Why wouldn't it charge the battery?

Does the official Dell one you mention charge the battery? If you tell me that the official Dell one does indeed charge the battery, what is it about the official Dell one that causes it to charge the battery while a non-Dell one won't charge the battery?

Many aftermarket chargers don't have the right resistance on the center pin, which is what Dell uses to determine AC adapter wattage. If the laptop is unable to identify the charger, it will disable battery charging and cause a warning message during POST.

    Thanks for the help Robin24k!

Does the official Dell AC adapter for the Latitude E6410 charge all of the different sized batteries for the Latitude E6410 or does one have to pick the right Dell adapter for the battery size?

The 90W PA-3E will charge both 6-cell and 9-cell batteries. The 65W PA-2E is not recommended for NVIDIA systems with 9-cell batteries.

Because I tested the used E6410 yesterday when I got it, the battery went dead (and I don't have the non-Dell AC adapter yet). The listing I read for this laptop did state that the video card is "Nvidia NVS 3100M" and the battery is the one that sticks out from the back of the laptop (but maybe the other sizes also stick out from the back)-- I guess this is the 9-cell battery which, in my now dead battery, has the marking "Type 4M529" and "Capacity 90Wh". I'll probably send back the non-Dell AC adapter when it arrives and buy an official one, the Dell PA-3E adapter.

I got the AC adapter that Robin24k told me about.

The problem now is connecting wirelessly to the Internet-- I'm currently forced to use an ethernet cable from laptop to my router. This E6410 came with no OS and that's the way I wanted it-- since 2005, I've only used Linux. But for Linux users, there's the bad fact that the driver for the wireless hardware doesn't allow the system to even recognize the existence of the wireless hardware. This is a known problem for us Linux users.

Are there any Linux users who have this same model -- Latitude E6410 -- who solved this problem? While I've used Linux for the past 9 years, I'm no expert in doing unusal things to get something to work properly. [The wireless hardware in this laptop is the Broadcom BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller.]
