    Drivers & Downloads

    R315893 driver.

make sure you install them in order, you can download the pdf that shows you which to install first and such.

If it's worked fine for some time, it's possible that some setting got changed. Have you tried reinstalling Windows?

Yeah, i'm kinda puzzled as well, everything suggest hardware issues but i'm almost a hundred percent sure that the hardware is fine.

I boot from the windows disc, format the drive using windows installation program and after thats done i install windows. When the installation is done and i have a clean install without any drivers at all (except for the ones installed automatically by windows) the touchpad is working fine. But as soon as i install the drivers the mouse starts acting up. It literally stops working from one minute to another. And because of that i cant see how this could be a hardware problem.

    ?

I cant seem to find the pdf you're mentioning  but i've tried this driver(the most recent) and this driver(the one that kwapster suggested earlier). I've also tried a couple of different Alps-drivers from Sony, Toshiba and HP that istalled the touchpad as a Alps pointing device.

Well, its a brand new computer that i got really cheap from a customer of mine. But as mentioned above it works fine for a couple of minutes right up untill i install the drivers. And yeah, i've tried reinstalling windows a couple of times now :(

Well anyway, thanks for now guys. I really appreciate your help! But i've been called out to a customer so i'm gonna be out of town for at least a day. I'll get back on it once i'm home. Hopefully its one of these issues that magically sorts it self out with time

Ambient Light Sensor doesn't seem to work.

When i have it enable, the brightness not do anything no matter what i do to the sensor.

when it is enabled, i can use fn+up or down, and it will say "adjusted:1 ,2 ,3,4 to 15" and it brightness increases with the numbers.

wth? that's doing it manually. NO self adjustment what so ever.

    Am i missing a driver?

It doesn't immediately adjust the brightness, so give it some time. Shine a flashlight on it, wait for it to go to 100%, then cover it with your hand and it should go to 0%.

No driver is needed for the ALS.

Also I found turning the ALS on and off with the keyboard shortcut forces it to immediately auto-adjust, useful for when you don't want to wait.

hmm, i will have to try that, because it seems like it takes for ever to adjust to the environment lighting.

I have a card that looks identical, performance with portable drives was definitely limited by the mechanical drive, haven't tried anything faster than 80 MB/s.

The problem for me was the atrocious power usage, it drew at least 1-2W during standby and actually got uncomfortably hot during use (right at the palmrest, even). It sticks out around 1-2mm from the side, not really significant IMO.

I'd definitely recommend using an eSata drive if that's an option, which also works well with the docking solutions.

The PDF for Driver install (For my E6410 win 7 32bit) is dated 2006! Dell seems to be a little amiss about drivers and there order of install, and even the correct ones On one page it says you have to install the Dell ControlPoint Security Driver Pack (Before any other DCP software\drivers) but it doesn't list it anywhere. Anybody have any clue where to find the correct order (And which ones ) for the Win y 32 bit drivers?

    Thanks alot!
