Has anyone tried installing updated nVidia drivers from nVidia themselves? I did but it seems like newer drivers cause all sorts of bluescreens, anyone else experience this?

    Oh,

I didn't realize this. I figured the recovery disks where computer model specific.

I take it is has quite a few things loaded but not needed and searches for what is in the computer and acts appropriately?

Yes, the install disk contains a collection of drivers that may or may not be used. OEMs (usually) don't inject any additional drivers into the disk, just SLP activation and maybe a logo and support info.

I get some bluescreens occassionally but it's been significantly less with the new drivers. Usually it's if I come out of sleep mode.

    Hello,

I have two E6410's and I would like to change their hard drives with SSDs.
Here is the specification of the current HDD:

I am not an expert about SSDs, so here are my questions:

    1) Is it possible to use SATA III SSDs with the laptop?
    2) Is it possible to use "regular" SSDs rather than the ones called "mobility" SSDs?
    3) Are these products compatible with the laptop?
OCZ Vertex 3 240GB: OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD - OCZ (If SATA III is possible)
OCZ Vertex 2 240GB: OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II 2.5" SSD - OCZ
    4) Are the any other products besides these that you can recommend for E6410?

    Sincerely.

chocoboyz: The E6410 doesn't have SATA III (6 GB/s) but III drives work on II controllers.
It supports normal height 2.5" SSDs and HDDs and I have a Vertex 2 120GB in mine. In general I wouldn't recommend Vertex drives for reliable machines though, Intel and Samsung (I believe what Dell uses is Samsung) are far more reliable and have very little real-world speed difference.

I think the Vertex 3 will be slightly faster than the 2 though, but the 3 will not reach its full potential. Assuming there's a price difference, the Vertex 2 is probably the better choice of the two.

Other products: a newmodeUS hard drive caddy for when you need extra storage maybe, if you don't have it already a WWAN card is pretty useful for long trips. Extended battery and port replicators are also very useful and cool (I have the E-Port Plus, which is awesome).

You can get 54mm ExpressCard USB 3 controllers that fit slim with the computer, but I found mine draws about 1W and makes the palm rest quite warm.

Hey guys, quick noob questions... :p

A friend of mine offered me a free i5-520M for my e6410, I'm on an i3-380M... Is it worth to swap them out, and is that even doable? I'm assuming it is doable, and I cant see it being extremely complicated tbh.

Also, would it make any difference if I'm on Intel Integrated Graphics? I'm just wondering if swapping to the i5 would cause a meltdown of... well everything :p

    Thanks ^^

I'd say wait until your warranty is gone. CPU upgrades probably will void your warranty.

Do you do anything that justifies an i5-520M?

No not really, but an upgrade is an upgrade I suppose.

The warranty... that totally passed my mind, I'll pass, even if it is free. That didn't even cross my mind! D:

    Thanks Pylon :)
