Strange, I tried to upgrade to A10 and the .exe crashed. This was on a clean install of Windows 7 Professional X64 too, no Dell software or Bitlocker

I recall having the same probem with an earlier version of the BIOS, that was when it was fresh out the factory too on the original Dell image.

I tried a crucial c300 drive before (256 gig) and an OCZ Vertex 1 250 gig drive and both seemed to have a lot of problems with errors on the e6410 - i moved them to other desktop and laptops and they are fine. I got an Intel 320 series 160 gig drive and haven't had any issues since i put it in several months ago.

    Hi all,

I have the e6410 w/ 64 bit that I have been using for a year now. Oveall great machine and value, but I since I've upgraded the ram to 8GB (Mushkin by the way), I've started to have BSOD's. I can't fault the memory entirely because it happened before too, although very rarely. It also seems to happen at random times, while simple browsing or watching a flash video.

I did some searching online, and it seems that some people are having similar problems with 8GB on different machines. Has anyone experienced something similar here? All my drivers, BIOS, etc is up to date from the manufacturers' sites. The dump file say it's Kernel Power Event 41 error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using 2 x 4GB Patriot 1333MHz without issue, never heard of Mushkin though.

Check the BIOS and see if there are any Thermal Events (ie. overheating), and also keep an eye on system temperatures using a program like HWMonitor. If heat isn't it, I would reinstall Windows and see if it still happens.

Has anyone here been able to get this system to reliably suspend?
I have had issues with the factory install of Win7 Pro(32) on the stock 500gb Hard Disk.
I also have had issues with a fresh install of Wi7 Ultimate (32) on a Samsung 470 SSD.
My system will occasionally suspend and resume, but most often on resume, the power light will turn solid blue, but the screen stays blank and there is no response to any type of input.

Have you updated your BIOS to the latest version, which is A10? I put my docked E6410 to standby multiple times a day without issue.

I've also had standby issues in the past, though very intermittently (maybe once a week or two). A09 still gave me those issues.

About two or three times it did freeze when on the Windows log in screen after waking up.

Ideally, get an SSD and switch to hibernate, which doesn't seem to be affected by the same issues.

Robin: I just upgraded from A07. I am anxious to see what happens. I typically don't like to upgrade the bios unless it states that it is to fix an issue I am having. I kept upgrading through A07 (I started at A02 I think), but it never fixed the suspend issue. Keeping my fingers crossed that this may help.

Pylon757: I really don't want to do the hibernate thing simply because:
    1) Hibernate will decrease the life (theoretically) of an SSD due all of the writing to the disk.
    2) I seriously bet that resume from Hibernate will probably not be much faster than a cold boot.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I agree, disabling hibernation (run powercfg /h off as admininistrator) is one of the first things for a config. Not only does it save a bunch of disk space, but hibernation really doesn't work very well.
