I thought the PM800 was a Dell part number. I should've Googled it.

Yea, Thanks! Actually the first thing I did was check for firmware updates prior to installing the OS. It actually shipped with the most recent firmware.

I will report back here in a day or two to give some objective observations of the performance enhancement I am seeing from this drive, but I can say that the speed difference and responsiveness over my 7200rpm drive is amazing!

    Hi all,

if got a little problem regarding the installation of the protector suite on my Latitude E6410. First I set up a fresh windows 7 64bit Professional installation and I followed the posted installation order. But the problem is that the protector suite and also the Dell Data Protection Data can't register any fingerprint.
    - Dell software: all two sensors are working "ok", but no fingerprint reader found.
    - Protector suite: no biometrical device found. attach or activate the device
But I could register a fingerprint in the windows tool and the login with the windows tool is working.

Is it necessary to install and uninstall the Control Point Security Manager and the Security Device Driber Pack? I only installed the Control Vault Driver bevor following the instructions.

Could you please give me any help for solving the problem?

    Hi,
I spent hours troubleshooting it on my E6420. DO NOT install the Control Vault Driver.

You will have to do a fresh reinstall of the OS without the control vault driver.

But if no control vault driver is installed bevore the WBF driver the firmware update doesn't work. Anyway there is a different installation order posted at dell homepage:
    1. install data protection driver (without control vault)
    2. install wbf-driver (complete)
    3. update firmware
But this solutions also doesn't work. The problems are the same.

I just picked up one of these used, and I am having a little problem. I'm not sure whether it has been like this since I bought it, or if it developed this issue after I updated the bios and various firmwares. The right speaker is quiet; It seems unamplified. Headphones work fine, it's just the internal speakers. Booting from the Dell diagnostic CD and running the audio tests produces the same problem. Any sound through the right speaker is very quiet.

Has anyone else run into this problem? I don't see it mentioned in this thread.

Your right speaker is dead, you'll need to replace the palmrest, which includes the speakers. Your warranty should cover it, but a new palmrest is only around $20 on eBay, so it's an cheap fix.

Note that there are two palmrests for the E6410, with or without FPR hole. If you don't have FPR, you'll want to get the palmrest with a right speaker grille that is the same size as the left.

Robin24k: Thanks for the reply. I actually have 3 palmrests acquired while adding a fingerprint reader. So, bad speaker was my first thought too. Unfortunately they all behave the same way. I'll probably have to replace the mobo. :( Maybe someone on ebay who doesn't care about the internal speakers will want to buy this one for cheap. It does have discrete video and the express card slot, so it could be an upgrade to somebody.

You should be able to get the warranty transferred to you, and then you'll be able to get Dell to replace the motherboard.

So I promised to get back with some benchmarking and observations regarding the new Samsung 470 series 128 gig SSD I installed. Here they are:
    System:
    E6410, M540 cpu, 4 gig ram, Nvidia gpu, win7 32 ultimate
A full boot is from pressing the power button to having FireFox open.

With stock 7,200 rpm 500gig drive (using Win7 Pro):
Boot: 2:25, Shutdown: 20 secs, Open Outlook: 44 seconds
    WEI rating 6.2

    With Samsung SSD:
Boot: 44secs, Shutdown 8 secs, Open: Outlook 3 secs
    WEI rating 7.6

The difference is astounding. Most programs open within 1 second, like they are already in RAM.
The only issue I am running into is instability in standby mode. Sometimes it works, sometimes it locks up from standby. I am troubleshooting this, but it looks like this is a know problem with most SSDs with these E series systems.
