Can I replace the optical drive with an SSD for OS ? and if so, which size should I be looking for ? 2.5?

    I am aware of that...
But I never had this issue since day 1 (November 2008). Either I have a faulty motherboard where the throttling doesn't happen, or it's because I have the Nvidia solution and not Intel's worst idea ever to combine northbridge with GPU in one chip.

Unless they have recently changed, Dell's E series media bay HDD unit is 1.8". However, there are various aftermarket options which use 2.5" discs (see top thread in this forum).

You will be able to boot from this drive and you can also boot from a drive connected to the eSATA port.

    The E6410:
    Storage interface: SATA
    eSATA: Yes
    Drive bays: 2.5 inches
    1 bays (total)
    1 bays (occupied)

I will replace the stock 250 GB hd to a spare 500 GB 7200 RPM that I have

also there is caddy adapter for the optical drive bay

why you ordered just 1 gb of ram? I hope you did it because you want to buy more ram from another place or you already have a considerable amount. I said that because the more ram the better, so most of time ram are much much much much more important than cpu if you want a fast response computer.

Finally, my E6410 has left Shanghai and landed in Frankfurt. It's scheduled to be delivered this Friday here in Austria. So I guess, UPS is back on track and the german customers should get theirs soon, too.
I've ordered it with the blue cover and the 1280x800 WXGA screen, because I simply prefer the resolution on 14". (it's easier on the eyes, but that's just my opinion).
I will post some pictures as soon as it gets here...

What do you think of the speakers on this notebook? Are sound quality and volume good (for example, can you hear music or a presentation playing from across the room)?
