On my RAID0-equipped Lenovo W520 and W530, the optical bay hard drive had a screw to prevent accidental removal. I do agree that the easy swap option (even in past Precisions) is welcomed but I plan on running RAID5 with 3 1TB drives so I wouldn't have used it. I'll use an external blu-ray drive if I need access to optical media.

I'm hoping someone posts the part number or has a rep with a good grasp of the parts database and posts the info here because I have 2 different requests in with Dell to get it but I haven't heard back yet.

I would love to get part numbers on Slot load and Tray load Bluray Burners. I noticed Slot Load bluray burners are not available on Dell's website but I did noticed a UJ Panasonic 9.5MM slot load Bluray Burner on ebay but not sure if it will work.

    Thanks on the great post!

Not sure about the slot load. I have a tray load burner, UJ-252, bought off eBay and installed myself. Any drive should work as long as it is a standard 9.5mm SATA drive. Of course, pay attention to the bezel, some drives on eBay might not come with one. (If you already have a slot load drive you can probably take the bezel off of it and put it on your new drive.)

Did you successfully swap the Dell tray load DVD drive's bezel onto the UJ-252? I'm looking at the UJ-262.

On a seperate note... My Core i7-3940XM equipped M6700 has been delayed by a week. The delivery date is the 18th now. *sigh*

I think that should be doable, however, my UJ-252 came with a plain square bezel and I just left it on.

Yes, it should be doable, the way they attach is usually universal, but some bezels have a death grip on the ODD making removing them a real pain.

Can anyone provide the BIOS SATA #'s for the various drive bays. SATA 0, SATA 1, etc.
    Thanks

    SATA-0 - Primary 2.5" bay
    SATA-1 - Secondary 2.5" bay
    SATA-2 - mSATA
    SATA-3 - Optical bay
SATA-4 - (unused - unless it is for eSATA on dock?)
    SATA-5 - eSATA

Thanks for the info Aaron44126, we are ordering with SSD as primary HD and a secondary drive for storage.

Our deployment process installs a custom corporate OS image with Dell Drivers added on and does a Bitlocker process on the system drive. The Bitlocker process fails if there is a secondary drive in the system. This problem is not specific to any particular computer.

So we are looking at the easiest way to configure the system so the secondary drive can be disabled as easily as possible during the deployment. Typically they prefer to physically disconnect the drive. There are time constraints and costs involved with this.

For those looking to add Bluetooth after-the-fact, these are the part numbers your need:

331-8106 Bluetooth Cable, Dell Mobile Precision M6700
430-4642 Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth 4.0 LE Module, Dell Latitude E4/Mobile Precision

I ordered several items today and figured I'd post the part numbers here:

    0269Y Dell DW5630 (Gobi 3000) WWAN Card

331-7947 E-Port Plus, 240W Advanced Port Replicator, USB 3.0, Dell Mobile Precision (This is the bigger port replicator. 331-7950 is the "simple" E-Port replicator. )

    312-1354 Primary 9-cell 97WHR battery

    312-1242 Slice 9-cell 97WHR battery

I could not purchase the optical bay hard drive caddy today. I have a part number but it won't be available for at least a month. I will post more information at that point.
