My first estimates put the battery life between 5 and 6 hours on balanced power plan 40% brightness and no other tweaks. I'm currently draining it to do a first calibration and will check afterwards. There is also the fact that due to the updates and everything, the system is still indexing some stuff, .net had to compile in the background, etc. Still, i'd say 5-6 hours is a good bet.

As for the Quadro vs Firepro, first AMD has nothing to rival the K5000m, no IPS with AMD and nVidia has switchable graphics on non IPS. That kinda makes the M6000 a niche option for those who don't need the IPS and want to save some money aka students. KCETech1 has stated that she'd like to see a more powerful firepro for OpenCL given that Kepler ain't so good at OpenCL. The Quadros are better, but a 7970m firepro equivalent would rule the OpenCL performance.

I actually had a talk with KCETech1 and in the end i chose the firepro based on her advice. No CUDA apps and couldn't go for the K5000m as well as the gaming performance.

Hi everyone, I am seriously considering buying a M6700 although I still have got some questions unanswered which I hope you can help me with.
I am planning to use the laptop mainly for using Catia and Autodesk products like Inventor and Alias.
I have been thinking about a i7-3820QM + Nvidia K4000M combination to handle my graphic needs. In regards to storage I have planned to have 32 Gb of ram and 2*512 SSD drives. I have got issues with the display as I do not know whether to pick up a 3D display with glasses or a FHD IPS screen. The temptation of having a 3D display for watching 3D blurays or doing 3D stereo modelling is eluding my judgement. In your opinion do I really need to spend over AUD 1350 to get that? What are the chances I might need this? I also wants to know if the 3D display is anti glare or gloss?
Please let me know what you think. Thanks

Sorry to not to read 40 pages thread, simply asking is there any problem with the IPS display or everything is OK? In M4700 there is that tint, but is M6700 panel OK? Thanks

Really small blue and orange / red tint here. But only on plain white so... no problem for me. Some say they dont have ANY tint, but who knows for sure. You cant see the tint on pictures so....

Well, if you do not need color reproduction and 3D, you could simply go for the 1920x1080 panel. The IPS will give you a better image and Bokeh didn't mention any issues with his panel in his review. I personally consider 3D to be sort of a gimmick, it gives me headaches and glasses over glasses just sucks no matter how you look at it. 3D in it's current form isn't for everyone, you might want to take that into account. Also you can expect ~10hours of battery life with the non IPS display and nVidia GPU thanks to optimus.

Yeah, it really is a shame or i would be using the IPS display instead of the TN. That said, the TN isn't bad, it is far from the cheap 1366x768 crap you see in a lot of consumer notebooks, but the IPS is miles better.

I don't think so this time around. It finally appears to have come of age.
That was then tijo. The 3D available in today's version is active shutter not the passive shutter (the source of your headache) 3D of yesterday. This version is much more sophisticated, and should mitigate if not completely eliminate your headache issue. If 3D is what you want/need it only comes in one flavor: nVidia.

Agreed, but the 3D screen needs to be a 120 Hz one, so I can see myself considering it for 2D purposes :)

Yes, 3D is better, but still not at the point where i would consider it at maturity. Still the tech has advanced, it's true.

I still get headaches regardless of the technology (The 3D PS3 display uses active shutter IIRC). It might have to do with my eyesight problems and the fact that i'm mildly colorblind. Still anything that requires me to wear glasses over my glasses is a no go for me (and in my case contact lenses are a no go 90% of the time). While i do not represent the majority of the population, 3D still doesn't work perfectly for me in it's current form.
