    Hello everyone,

    I have a M6700 with an i5 CPU and nVidia K4000M, 2 x 8 Gb RAM, running Windows 10 64 bit.

    First Question:
Ever since l have had the laptop, which is 2nd hand, there have been issues with the WiFI. Shortly after turning on the laptop, the WiFI will drop and disconnect. Looking at the available SSID's none are listed.

    Toggling the Airplane mode switch.
Rebooting the laptop sometimes allows you to connect to WiFI, but then SSID's will disappear again.
I have tried the Dell and the latest Intel driver.
Also tried re-seating the wireless card and re-seating the antenna cables.

So l am tempted to order the Intel 6300 mini card to replace the Dell branded 1530 or 1540.

    Second Question:
I am tempted to upgrade the i5 to an i7 CPU. I believe l would also probably need to change the heatsink as well.
Does any one have any recommendations on what i7 to go for. Speed vs Price

    Thanks N

I recently put in an Intel 7260 revised Wi-Fi card and I recommend looking into that one, they are cheap and readily available, and you get 802.11ac. I've tried a number of different wifi cards in this system and this is the one that I like the best. (Note that there are two different models of this card out there, you should make sure that you get the HMWG.R "revised" one, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Netwo...617755?hash=item4af9a062db:g:bJoAAOSwezVWyrr7)

You only need to upgrade the heatsink if you go for the top-level "extreme" 39?0 CPU. All of the other CPUs in this system work with the same single-pipe heatsink. (There is a dual-pipe heatsink that you can upgrade to and it may reduce CPU temps a little, see: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m6700-heatsink-swap-repaste.710800/)

Speed vs. price is totally up to you, aside from having quad core, you will probably not notice any difference if you get one that is 0.2 GHz faster or slower than another.

Have you checked the Power Plan settings?

It sounds like the WiFi card is switched off to save power.

I played around with the Power Settings, but this has not fixed the issue.

This is the sort of thing you can call Dell's spare parts department for (877-372-3355 in the U.S.) --- Not sure if they will have them available still since this is an older machine, but you can mention that the same rubber feet are used for the Precision M4800/M6800 which is a bit newer. I've purchased rubber feet from them before (for a different model laptop) and they are cheap, something like $5 for a set of 10.

Has anyone had problems with hinges? From the outside they seem pretty sturdy but despite my kid-gloves handling, the left one still snapped. I typically keep my slice attached. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

If anyone doesn't know, the hinges can't be replaced separately. They're a part of the entire cover attachment.

Mine are still as solid as they were over 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure you can swap the hinges, but it'll involve some pretty hefty disassembling.
