Hey guys, i recently upgraded to a 6700 from my 4600
    i7 3640qm
    16gb
    2x500
    k3000m

i have since upgraded it to
    32gb ram
    512gb msata + 2tb + 128gb SSD + 128gb SSD
    GTX970m

i...recently killed the screen lol. i rode my bike to work, and hit rain, evidently a water resistant pack, just means it keeps water from leaving the bag.. So my screen got ruined but everything else is good. have since ordered a replacement from a msi computer, my question is, since i noticed we have the eDP port on the mobo as well, will the m6800 touch assembly all bolt up and plug in?

    Hi, does anyone know how to check the condition of the cmos-battery? someone suggested my problems with bluescreens could derive from that, as the date on the bluescreenview file was false;

Update: Just found out that it's not checkable; I wonder if its necessary to replace it after three years of daily use anyway?

My M6700 cannot detect the 3.5mm external mic input.
When I plug in my 3.5mm mic to my M6300, a box shows up
asking me what action should take, that means the mic was detected,
but my M6700 does not. What is the problem?

    Thanks in advance..

You may not get a box when the mic is connected but that does not mean that it was not detected. Right-click the volume icon on the taskbar and select "Recording devices", there you can see if it is plugged in and the volume level.

With the mic plugged in, select it, go to "Properties" and then the "Levels" tab. Look at the "Microphone boost" option. For a microphone, this should be set to 10 or 20 dB (experiment to see what works best for your mic). For "Line in" (an audio source that is not a mic), it should be set to 0 dB.

Thanks for your help. Finally I found that the mic was not set to be "ON" in the BIOS... I selected it and restarted the laptop, the mic works well. What a stupid mistake...

Checking out the new NVIDIA Pascal-based mobile GeForce GPUs, and particularly, if there is any possibility of upgrading existing systems (Precision M6700 / M6800 / 7710) using these GPUs.

We have confirmed success stories of users upgrading the M6700 with a GeForce 980M and Quadro M5000M (both using NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs). NVIDIA also released a mobile version of the GeForce 980 (without the "M" - desktop GPU), which has a MXM interface but is larger than a standard MXM card (and also has an extra power connector), so there is no chance it will work in these existing systems. (Pic)

For Pascal, NVIDIA seems to be expanding on this, releasing GPUs that are closer to desktop-class than previously, with no plans for mobile GeForce GPUs as we have seen before. And as of today, laptops are shipping with Pascal-based GeForce GPUs inside.

I found a picture of the "mobile" GeForce 1070, which like the 980, has an MXM interface but is larger than normal and has an extra power connector, so there is no chance of an upgrade there. I'm interested to see if anyone happens by a picture or details about the mobile GeForce 1060, which is supposed to be smaller to fit into smaller laptops. It has slightly fewer CUDA cores than the Quadro K5000M (1280 vs. 1344), but operates at over double the clock speed (1400 MHz vs. 600 MHz), so it would make quite the upgrade. And it shouldn't totally break the bank either, being the low-end GPU of this generation. It does, however, only have 6 GB of memory (less than 980M and M5000M).

If it's still a strange card, we'll have to wait and see if NVIDIA releases standard MXM mobile Quadros based on Pascal, or if they continue to use the new large MXM form factor for those as well.

Edit - 1060 has 80W TDP so it won't need an extra power connector

Found some information about the GeForce 1060, MXM version.

Positive - It is a standard MXM card, so it should fit into existing systems, here is a picture
Negative - Apparently LVDS support has been dropped with Pascal, so your system needs an eDP port for any chance of an upgrade.

M6700 uses eDP for the IPS display. You cannot use Optimus with the IPS display.
M6800, I'm not completely sure but I think all available displays are LVDS.
7710 uses eDP for all displays so there is potential there. This card is not going to be a whole lot faster than the M5000M, but it would be way cheaper.

[Edit] - Occurs to me that the LVDS/eDP issue may not be a blocker if you are content sticking with Optimus on all the time, I'll see what I can figure out.

Not even the techs always get this one right. But from what I know all but the Covet is interchangeable.
