Hmm, strange, did you install the package with the RST management software of installed the F6 package through device manager?

I'm curious as to whether it'll be stable or not, 11.5 was causing me problems on older computers. 11.5 so far has caused no issues with my SNB desktop. The problem i was having with 11.5 and series 5 chipsets was that when i tried to start HWiNFO it would cause a bluescreen when it was trying to detect the drives. It might have to do with the fact that my SSD (Intel 320) was detected as a SCSI device instead of a SATA one.

I installed the package with the RST management software. (Need it to enable the SRT SSD cache.)

I was previously running 11.0 (stable for weeks). I had problems when I tried 11.2. (Well, a single BSOD blaming iastor.sys was enough to make me revert.)

This isn't the first time that a disk controller driver upgrade has required me to reactivate. However, I'm curious if others see the same thing. I've made a couple of other system changes lately and it may be that this was what pushed me over the edge, so to speak.

Any idea if the GPU heatsink for AMD and NVIDIA are the same? read somewhere for M6600 they were, not sure in M6700. X-bracket are not the same for sure

Going by the disassembly manual at dell.com and Bokeh's pics, it's possible there are indeed two heatsink models despite what Dell's tech support told me. The one in the manual has only one heatpipe, the one that Bokeh has sports two heatpipes. In any case i will check and inquire as to the cost of the 2 heatpipe heatsink if necessary. It would likely make non extreme i7s run cooler.

Well, I think I am going to pull the trigger on M6700, but I have a couple questions about the display options.

I would like to get the IPS display, but I really don't like the idea of giving up Optimus support. The 3D display looks interesting (albeit expensive).
Is Optimus supported with the 3D display? How does the 3D display compare to the other FHD displays? Is the 3D display matte or glossy? Basically, other than stereoscopic support, is there any other advantage to 3D display (how about for gaming - other than 3d of course)? How is the standard FHD display compared to M6600?

How many external monitors can the M6700 drive without the use of a port replicator (I'd like to hold off on the port replicator until Dell updates it)?

    Is the Blu-ray drive tray-loading or slot-loading?

Also, I plan on getting it with minimal memory and hard drive options with the intention of upgrading. I haven't decided on what memory to get yet (suggestions?), but I am leaning heavily toward the Samsung 830 SSD.

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure that you won't get Optimus on the 3D display. (That's the way it is with the XPS machines.) I don't think I've seen anyone post here to confirm that.

The 3D display has a brightness of 400 nits, while the other displays have 300 nits. So, there's another advantage to having it. Granted, 300 nits is plenty bright if you ask me... Many laptops have a max brightness around 220.

External monitors? The official word is two without a dock and three with a dock. I regularly use mine with two external monitors (HDMI and DisplayPort) plus the internal display. It also supports DisplayPort daisy-chaining. Monitors that support this feature aren't very common yet. I haven't tested it but the NVIDIA control panel makes it look like it can support three monitors in a chain off of the DisplayPort.

The Blu-ray drive is tray loading.

I bought the Corsair Vengeance RAM (4 x 8 GB, DDR-1600) and it has been working great.

That's odd, I updated on my 6700 2 days ago when the post first appeared, and did not have to reactivate anything.

Plus the 120 Hz for non-3d usage? I've been considering it for that reason only, but not having Optimus with it would be a big minus.

There is a Panasonic slot-in blu-ray burners generally available finally so I wouldn't be surprised if Dell switches to that (personally, I prefer the slot in variant).
