If you don't mind, where did you purchase the drive?

I bought it off eBay. This one:

    New UJ252 UJ-252 UJ252A UJ-252A DELL SONY Blu-ray 9.5mm burner player drive BD-R | eBay

I got it aftermarket simply because it saved over $200 vs getting it from Dell.

Because my machine came with a tray-load drive, I had the option to just move the bezel from that drive to the BD-RE; I opted to keep the bezel it came with, it doesn't match perfectly but it does have the little disc format logos which I think are cool to have on there. :p

If you do go for the BD-RE, note that a newer model, the UJ-262 is available (albeit quite a bit more expensive). Of course, any DVD-RW drive or BD-ROM/DVD-RW combo drive should work fine if they are the correct form factor.

Thanks for the links. With the K2000M and the K5000M numbers, I have a good feel where the K3000M and K4000M should be.

    • Intel HD 4000 (WEI Graphics 6.6, 6.6)
    • Quadro K2000M (WEI Graphics 7.1, 7.1)
    • ... K3000M & K4000M ...
    • Quadro K5000M (WEI Graphics 7.6, 7.6)
    • GeForce GTX 460 (WEI Graphics 7.7, 7.7)

Sounds about right although WEI isn't the best benchmark indicator. By the way, does anyone know of good openGL and openCL benchmark programs. I know cinebench does openGL, but i'm wondering if there are others. 3DMark has the DX side covered.

Thanks. I came across the same ebay listing but I was a little leery of buying it off ebay from Taiwan. It is about $140 cheaper for me (since the cheapest drive I can get is the DVDRW). I think I will just go with the slot-load DVD+/-RW for now and upgrade later if the slot loading annoys me too much.

I've ordered plenty of basic hardware from ebay that was in Asia and so far i haven't had any problems. I haven't heard of knockoff blu-ray drives so far.

No, but I think it's more about uniformity rather than accuracy. According to Window, it a measurement of component integration, but here it can be used as a built-in standardization tool.
Neither have I, but that doesn't mean they're not out there. I only recently came across warnings of headphone knockoffs, and later, fake backpacks? I would have never guessed there was even a market for something like that.

A point to consider, if you read bokeh's thread with all the benchmarks and photos of the 6700, he explains in there why he thinks the K5000 is very much underclocked, and recommends settings. I did what he recommended, and I have been running it that way ever since. I have noticed no unusual fan activity, and in WEI I get 7.8 on the K5000. The benchmark numbers for things like 3DMark11 were up around 15%. If you want, check out bokeh's thread.

A reasonable precaution consider it's guarantee of stability. Incidentally, could you also please include which WEI version?

Is that the built-in overclock capability? I remember reading this in the product configuration lists.
Not sure what you mean by that. Pics?

I interned to do that same but not due to costs rather capability. I want to be prepared for anything should the need arise.

Unfortunately, I still have to wait for my budget approval before I can make the purchase. In the mean time, I'll have enjoy vicariously through all of you.

Granted on uniformity and if you want more precise numbers without running extra benchmarks, there is always the winsat query command.

Interesting, in any case i'm always careful when i buy stuff from eBays, but the risk is always there. I'm particularly wary of batteries even if the one i ordered for my G73 is genuine. Wireless adapters is something i try to avoid getting from eBay because of 6200/6300 ES and knockoffs from a while ago.
