    hey everyone

just wanted to keep you guys updated and let you know that i still havent received my covet m6700. ive been waiting since August 3rd. the reason for the delay was that my sales rep in india made a mistake by giving me an encryption software that belongs to a company of i dont know what and all that waiting time was for the software to arrive. when they finally reailised the mistake they canceled my order and made a new one and gave me a free upgrade to the xm processor which was great but it still doesnt change the fact that ive been waiting for my laptop for a month and a half now and im very late for my work that i need to get done. the customer service person thats helping me out has been great though keeping me updated and trying to get things done for me she even told the sales rep in india off because he honestly didnt know what he was doing. just some advice to all that are thinking of ordering, just make sure that you have all the right specifications and ask the rep to make sure that everything is right and that you dont have any unwanted encryption softwares. my laptop is now set out to be shipped or delivered i dont know but its saying on their tracking page, the 24th of september. i hope i will have it by then and hopefully i will be able to make an unboxing video.

My mistake... I am not sure when dell added the new port replicators, but the last time I checked, they were not available with USB 3.0. So you should be fine.

    Hmmmm...
I just chatted with a Dell Canada rep and he claimed that all of the drives were slot load. Does anyone have the part number for the tray-load blu-ray drive? I don't really need blu-ray and the only reason I would pay extra for it is if it were tray-loading (I really hate slot loading drives).

Dunno about that. I told my rep to give me the cheapest possible drive and the machine came with a tray-load DVD-ROM. I replaced it with a tray-load BD-RE (Panasonic UJ-252, same model that Dell uses). Bokeh has a picture of the Dell-provided Blu-ray drive with the Dell part number on the label.

Actually, the DVD-ROM is not available in Canada. The rep said that all the available M6700 drives are slot loading. As for the part number, I would like the Dell part number. Does the same Dell part number guarantee the same physical part (even in different countries)?

    Thanks.

The Dell part number is on the photo I linked: 0D8FR5. I'm not aware of any reason that the part would be different or get you a different part internationally.

The drive is a standard 9.5mm "ultraslim" SATA drive, so you can always buy any drive you like and swap it out yourself, as long as the drive comes with a standard square bezel. It is a super easy installation.

The DVD-RW drive from Dell (next step up from your drive) is a slot-loader. I have it in my M6700. Don't know about the Blu-Ray drives.

I missed that. Also, I was thinking of the SKU number (does the same SKU guarantee same part?). Anyways, I cannot find the drive on the dell site.

That is true. I was just concerned about the bezel matching. Although it really should not be this difficult to find out exactly what you are getting.

Can anyone confirm this? Another online chat has only left me more uncertain. The rep did not even seem to know that the HD4000 was the integrated graphics (he said the m6700 could not be configured with it ). Ultimately the rep had no idea if Optimus would work the 3D display and suggested I check with NVIDIA.

Again, it should not be so difficult to know what your getting...

One thing you could do is call tech support again and ask for a senior technician (tell them a previous call returned a useless answer), they usually know their stuff pretty well while the first person you talk to is usually summarily trained to handle the basic stuff, but not the more technical inquiries.
