Nope, I just ran the test normally...
I am in the "High performance" power mode if that makes any difference.

I received the quotation from Dell, 3720QM CPU. inside it mentioned "Heatsink for 45W processor, M6700"

I would like to know those who purchased 3920XM CPU, what is the description for the Heatsink? is it the same 45W or 55W?

The reason i chose 3720QM because I will replace it with 3940XM later. In this case the heatsink will be very important.

You can see the 55 watt heatsink along with the part number in the pics I posted for the my owner's review.

    Aaron,

    Thanks for the numbers.

My workstation's NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 gets 7.7 so I now know what to expect with the NVIDIA Quadro K5000M.

You will definitely get a bump with a good SATA3 SSD (or 2). Too bad the mSATA port isn't SATA3 as well.

I tried RAID0 with 2 SSD's on my M6400 and found better performance using them in a non-RAID, OS + Data configuration.

Planning on upgrading sooner or later. The M6700 left a hole in my budget and (high-capacity) SSDs still cost quite a bit.

Anyone know how to keep the machine from waking from sleep by itself? Today my M6700 started waking up after I put it to sleep, while I am packing it up. I am thinking maybe there is something strange and it thought I was opening the lid while I was actually closing it. I only want it to wake up when I press the power button.

I asked that same question 3 years ago with my HDX. I used to wake from sleep all the time. Unfortunately, no one had an answer.

Nevertheless, I continued to search and did find one viable answer that stated the machine may wake to run some program but I never found out what it could be. In any event, I simple refrained from sleep mode and just go straight to hibernate.

It is of course much slower to wake than sleep, but at least I won't risk it waking when its heavily wrapped in my backpack or case.

Now then, can someone tell me why Intel Rapid Storage reports my eSATA port sometime registers SATA transfer rate at 1.5 Gb/s instead of 3 Gb/s ? It does that every other time its connect it. Another Unsolved Mystery?

I've found IRST to be somewhat of a hit and miss when it comes to eSATA from version to version. 10.something for example absolutely refused to write to a drive if write caching was enabled. I have observed this behavior on both my desktop and N50. Newer versions don't seem to cause problems on the N50. I haven't tried on my desktop because i changed the eSATA from the Intel controller to the 6Gbps Marvell controller on my mobo since at the time there was 10.x was the latest version. Have you tried to saturate the eSATA port to check whether RST was reporting the wrong values?

I'm going to order my m6700 on monday (finally decided on which GPU i was getting) and i could always test for your eSATA issue once i receive it.

When i call, i'll ask the rep about the 55W heatsink too.

Does any one know the make of the Bluetooth module and where it goes? I received my M6700 and despite the sales rep insisting that it comes standard with bluetooth , mine does not have the bluetooth module installed. Not sure what they will do if I call in tomorrow, but just wondering if they don't figure something out than I could buy it from ebay and install it myself.

It goes in a little compartment that's accessible under the battery once you remove it. (I think the BIOS will also tell you if the module is installed or not.)

And yeah, I'm pretty sure you could order a M6700 without bluetooth if you started with the cheap model and didn't remember to add it.

    One of Bokeh's pictures illustrates:
    http://www.appstate.edu/~taylorsa1/m6600/m6600in.jpg
    (It's a M6600 but it's in the same place on the M6700.)

I'd rather not use hibernate but if this becomes an issue and I have no other choice, I guess that will be the way that I go. I don't have trouble with it waking up during transport. I only have trouble making it stay asleep while I am packing it up. Once it's sleeping, though, it's good.

I discovered a couple of things though.

    powercfg /lastwake

This command shows you why the computer woke from sleep the last time.

    powercfg /disabledevicewake (something)

This command lets you prevent a device from waking the computer.

I haven't done any more investigation yet but come Monday morning when I need to move it again, if it wakes up while I'm trying to pack it up, I'll be able to figure out why.
