Maybe you misunderstood me. I didn't say that it CAN'T or WON'T happen. It just didn't happen to me during nearly 1 year heavy usage of my M6700. So the probability seems to be not that high :)

The question will be: will the tech support concur that it's covered by warranty - or will they force me to use CompleteCare...

    Cheers,
    Alex

My comment was an aside: linked to your issue, but not directly in reply to it. I understood your position, and what you expect out of it. Please share your progress with us.

Alright I have just about had it with W8.1. Based on all the accolades I've been reading I felt it was safe to go ahead and upgrade, but ever since I did I haven't be able to install anything.

Not only that, I haven't been able to launch any of my maintenance software Perfect Disc, Revo Uninstaller, MiniTool Partition Wizard, etc. None of these will launch? This is the first time installing a new OS has resulted in this.

Before I do something drastic like purging everything and reverting back to W7 can anyone suggest a less drastic solution? I have a report due by tomorrow and I really need the software to complete it.

I don't have much additional software installed on Windows 8.1, but everything I have installed has gone on without a hitch and launches and runs as expected. Mind you, apart from drivers, nothing I have installed is designed to integrate with and enhance/replace existing OS features like partition management or disk optimisation. My partitions were already configured to meet my needs and the native disk optimisation is adequate for my needs. The only essential app yet to be added is Lightroom.

Maybe it's worth noting that I installed 8.1 over a fresh, vanilla 8.0 installation so there was no legacy crap buried in the registry or anywhere else.

I have Lightroom as well. It was already installed but some upgrades were installed without a hitch. I just can't get a Final Draft supporting software (which did install) to launch. I really need to start working on this report.

Have you tried right-clicking the program>properties>compatibility tab>try Windows 8 & Windows 7? See if either of those help.

Does it actually cover the whole display width-wise? Because I see they mention Macbook 17 in the description, but that was 16:10 IIRC.

Which neoprene sleeve do you use? I'm searching for something which is a perfect fit for the M6700 for extra protection when getting it in and out of the backpack at airports. Thanks.

Still wondering whether I should upgrade to 8.1 or not... I'll see if I can't make a bootable USB to upgrade instead. If I can do a clean install, that wouldn't be a bad thing. Setting everything the way I want again will be a pain though, dual boot and all...
