Ha duh! Thanks. Now I need to see if I can get my android device to mimic a smart card or find somewhere I could buy one to use for this...

Also, regarding the bent chassis issue, I'd either call dell to get a replacement, this isn't normal (the place where the lid is, is a weak point though so it something has to bend, it will likely happen there). It should also be relatively easy to fix be disassembling up to the point where you remove the palmrest and then bending it back gently.

Yeah bending it back into place won't fly with me. New piece completely is least I expect for what I paid. They are good about these things though so I'm not worried really...

Much more concerned about the smartcard and getting my phone to emulate one through Bluetooth or nfc maybe...

OK folks another question. I have the 3d display and a pair of 3d vision glasses. Is there a built in IR detector on the monitor somewhere. I did not get a IR hub with the glasses. I cant get the nvidia 3d setup to sync with them. Or is it the 3d vision Pro glasses I need which is RF based instead of IR???

Alright I changed out the 2nd drive with one I know works and it still doesn't show up under drives or DM. Any ideas as to the problem? Did I miss a step or could the drive bay be broken/damaged?

When you say it doesn't show up in drives, you mean disk management or the bios. If it's the former, check if the bios sees it.

So I've searched and read through many pages of this thread, and want to inquire if anyone has had freezing or black screen issues with any model of M6700?

I have been the happy but frustrated owner of an M6500 Covet since early 2010 (before they even shipped with USB 3.0) and it was plagued with bizarre random freezing issues literally from day 1. After numerous motherboard, daughterboard, video card, case, and even processor replacements including having sent my M6500 to Dell Depot for work, the freezing issue was never resolved.

As such, they are building me a new M6700 Covet to replace my poor M6500 Covet. I am excited about this (well in everything except losing my 1920x1200 resolution) but wondering if the new machine might suffer from similar issues. From reading posts here I see I am not the only one with a troubled M6500 who is receiving an M6700 replacement, and like the others, I am extending my warranty to the max (2 more years) as it really is worth the money.

I saw only one post (somewhere around page 71) from a user with 2 posts that was never answered but seemed to describe the same problem.

So, anyone had this happen on your M6700? The symptom is regardless of activity (could be working in any application or even just browsing Internet) the screen would lock up, caps lock light would not even change when pressing caps lock, and a hard shutdown would be required to reset the system.

The symptoms you describe closely resembles defective RAM where your system can lock up doing random things or even idling. I see Dell failed to run a long and thorough RAM check when at the depot and decided to spend all their efforts and $$$ replacing non-related parts lol.

Personally I can say the M6700 I have is the strongest laptop I have used ever, but do keep in mind that lemons do exist...
