Interesting, and again video card related. I will try this for now while I wait for the replacement system. In my case, the freezing happens sometimes 5 times a day, sometimes only once, sometimes not for a few days. Usually when I have critical work, of course, it happens more; I did downgrade to ISV driver for my Quadro F3800M, but the problem persists. Your solution (underclocking the GPU) I have never tried.

On the resolution, yes, I think I will miss it also, but when I compare the i7-3940XM to my i7-920XM, and the video card options, 1866mhz ram vs 1333mhz ram, SATA3 vs SATA2... it puts the 3 year old tech in perspective. The gap with your M6400 is even larger as you would be going from the last generation Core2 to the 3rd generation i7. That is a massive jump in performance. I think the screen resolution is a small (but painful) price to pay for this, but ultimately I think I'll just get used to the screen. I use an external monitor 90% of the time anyway at home and at the office.

And the power supply is slightly different from what I can tell. I asked my Dell ProSupport case owner about this. Since they are replacing my system, I wanted to know if my E-Port Plus replicator would be compatible with the M6700. He said there is some difference in the charger, and that once I get my new system, they will replace my docking station for the new one with USB 3.0 and power brick designed for M6700.

It would probably work though, I personally think. I can try it out when I get my system, before they replace my docking station, and see if it doesn't charge or displays any error message about the charger. No idea if the brick is bigger or not - I also have the slim version and the regular one for my M6500. I didn't see a slim version for the M6700.

    Good luck with your decision.

The dock for the M6500 works with the M6700, I am using a pr03x right now without any issues. Note that I am using an AC adapter meant for the M6700 with it though.

That's basically what the support rep told me. Since my dock came with the adapter (in addition to my laptop adapter) they are swapping the whole thing out. It is nice to get a dock with the USB 3.0 ports... Actually I'm going to pick up a second one for the home office.

I'm not sure. I see eSATA and HDD, but no SSD designation. How would I check that?

Anyway, I've also installed Adobe CS6 and noticed that it's not recognizing my graphics card--this is suppose to happen automatically. I guess I'll need to go to the Adobe's website and do more trouble shooting.

Wow, I knew getting this thing up and running was going to be a challenge but I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll focus on the drive issue first. tijo?

One more thing, I got the upgrade to Windows 8 on hold. Is there anything I should do under W7 before I upgrade?

Yeah, if they swap it, might as well go with it. These things are indeed awesome.
I would have to look into my BIOS again to see what the drive options are, but I can't right now since I'm in the middle of crunching numbers. If I remember correctly, one shows up as main drive and the other as internal HDD.

I had the same bent chassis area that you describe on my M6700 that was sent to me in replacement on an M6600. They came and replaced the chassis...all is fine now.

Okay, I check BIOS the configuration is "RAID ON= SATA is configured to support RAID mode." Which option do I choose for individual disc operation? Should be ATA mode? I don't want to screw this up.

RAID is fine, you will default to AHCI drivers if you don't have a RAID array.
