That's alright, better to do a good job than to rush through it.
I just spent $70 on cables (I lost my others in a recent move and needed to replenish), and got a huge box of air from Monoprice (big enough to hold 10x the amount I ordered).

I like to have all my cables within arms reach should I need them. Monoprice didn't have display port 1.2 (the most expensive of the lot), so I had to get that one from Amazon. I have all ports covered now.

I haven't overclocked it (yet) but some other people here have. I think you can do it entirely in software but it is also possible to flash the BIOS and override the speed that way.

I've been in a spot where I can't risk major system changes but my schedule is opening up some later this month so I'm planning on doing the heatsink swap (same as tijo) and playing around this overclocking the GPU sometime in the next few weeks. I will update of course if I find anything interesting.

Okay then, I was just curious as to its stability since there's so much conflicting information out on the subject of overclocking and stability issues with some programs. It's hard to know what to believe.

I'm moving into learning graphic design and some 3D animation, which as you know needs all the horsepower it can get, but just don't want to mess things up. I'm thinking the card's inherent 15% should be safe though; and I'll take whatever boost I can get.

Alright, the deed is done, temps are indeed lower, the writeup will have to wait though, but overall, the laptop is running cooler and that is what matters. I ended up repasted and the difference at full CPU usage is between 10 to 15 Celsius. I'm currently running a 10 minute stress test using Intel XTU.

Oh and while not 100% dust free, my heatsink was almost as clean as when I received it.

Anyone not running the Intel RST? On Win 8, I still cannot get my eSata to work. Dell's current work around is to use the Microsoft AHCI drivers. I am not running Raid or anything so I guess I really do not need the IRST.

I have not tried it out of fear of messing up the system.

    thanks,

    Mike

I was running my desktop without IRST for over a year, no problem what so ever. Some late 10.x RTS drivers broke eSATA for me in the past.

    Hey everyone.
I'm looking into getting a M6700, currently on a M6400 which is still going strong. I've noticed the keyboard seems to have changed and doesn't look as comfortable.
Has anyone else made a similar jump? How do you find it?
    Thanks

Not from the 6400, but the tactility takes some getting used to; it does not have a solid feel at all (especially after using my HDX--which strangely has a pretty good feel for such a cheap board). Nevertheless, it seems stable enough. That is, no flex.

So long as you're not a heavy touch typist, you shouldn't have any trouble at all.

Do you have the backlit keyboard Krane, It would be interesting to hear a comparison from someone who tried both. For Elitebooks, the non backlit version has better tactile feedback according to Charles P., so it may be the same for the Precisions. The keyboard feels ok for me (I got the backlit version). It's no Thinkpad keyboard, but i don't hate it either.

I've heard a number of people say that the non-backlit keyboard on the Precision has a fair amount of flex, while the backlit version is solid. I have the backlit version myself and I have no complaints.
