The Covet and non-Covet IPS panels perform the same. The difference is that the Covet is protected by Gorilla Glass. You can a Matte surface that will collect dust and (heaven forbid) finger prints that you have to carefully clean. You can have a glossy surface that will never let in dust or prints and is very hard to scratch. So, deal with some glare (less than a Macbook Pro) or deal with a screen that could be marred. I know I am blowing the marring out of proportion, but ANY onsite outdoor use in less than ideal conditions would push me to the Covet. The regular IPS is for Photographers in studios. The Covet is for editing in the woods or on the sidelines.

Give me a few days on the 3D panel.

Do the IPS still "screams"(or high pitch buzz precisely) on the m6700?

I have listened for a buzz on the M6600 in a semi-soundproofed room and never heard it. I have not noticed any buzz on the M6700, but then again, I have not put my ear right up to it trying to find it.

I do remember reading about it. Will try to hear it tomorrow.

I received my third M6700 this Wednesday. This time, I ordered the M6700 with the IPS display instead of the TN display. I have to say that both viewing angles and color reproduction are excellent.

One of the first things I did was running Diagnostics (Pre-boot System Assessment). I was shocked to discover that this M6700 has the exact same problem as the one I returned about a month ago.

This M6700 also displays the 'Unable to modify brightness' error when Diagnostics is run. It doesn't run the normal display tests (with the colored bars) even if I select to continue testing. The title bar also reads "Service Tag To be filled by O.E.M.". Also, the Bluetooth adapter is not recognized by the BIOS and is displayed as 'Bluetooth: {none}' in the BIOS information page.

See my original post about these problems here.

When I called Dell Tech Support about this with the previous M6700, they told me the motherboard needed to be replaced. I decided to return the M6700, get a refund and order a new M6700.

Since this M6700 has the exact same problems, I'm beginning to wonder if this is a structural problem with M6700's that come with BIOS version A06 and Windows 8 Pro installed from the factory.

Can anyone who recently received an M6700 with Windows 8 Pro pre-installed run Diagnostics and let me know if you have the same issue with the display test?

Also, can anyone check the BIOS information page to see if Bluetooth is listed as '{none}' even though the M6700 came with a Bluetooth adapter?

    THANKS!

    Look forward to the 3D review/comparison :)

    Any input on the below?:

other than the display i do wonder why the fingerprint option can be higher on the regular model than what is offered on the covet too... Do you know if they look different at all in anyway?...the FIPS high end one in the regular M6700 and the lower end option of 'internal swipe' thats only offered on the Covet model...

    Hi,
i want to order the M6700 Covet edition. Dell just told me that the Covet edition is not availiable with the UMTS option. Has anybody ordered the UMTS module afterwards? which antennas did you use?

    thanks for the reply

    Hi Fabian,

I ordered a "Dell Wireless 5560" (HSPA-UMTS) separately and installed it by myself. Works flawlessly. Even the Covet with its Edge2Edge display comes with 2 antennas for WWAN (although DELL states that this isn't true).

    Cheers,
    Alex

I know Dell made a lot of changes to the BIOS for Windows 8. It may be that they are already working to fix some of these glitches as they are found.

I don't hear anything like that at all.

I think this was mainly associated with people buying the LG panels from a 3rd party site and then installing them in Dells that did not originally come with the screen.
