Ask any group of people anywhere if they recognize the name Panther 4.0 or Eurocom. Then ask about Dell or even Precision. The fact that one is well known and the other is hardly known is what I mean by esoteric. In other words, you'll likely be the only one on your block with one. Dell, on the other hand, occupies a position that spans the mass market and Eurocom a very small one.

For that reason it would be difficult to compare the two machines. You buy a Dell for its brand recognition. You buy the Eurocom because you want one. You don't just want power, you want/need the exclusivity that comes with it as well. The Panther 4.0 gives you those things.

For the record, I briefly looked at this machine as well, but decided to stick with the brand I know because of its larger influence. Also a larger company tends to stand behind their products and be more reputable.

For me, that's not just a philosophy in this case, but the one I follow with just about all my purchases. I may not get a unique product at a department stores, but if something goes wrong or I just change my mind, I know i can take it back without any hassle whatsoever. Not to mention, I've read a few horror stories about Eurocom's resistance to stand behind their products should they fail.
Nevertheless, at this level a "biased" opinion is just about all you will get. They're both capable of maximum functional and performance, so it's up to things you like about one vs the other. That's even the perspective between Dell and HP. If someone can provide proof otherwise, I shall be as interested to learn about it as you.

One more thing, I was also interested in the value of purchasing the 3D display but decided otherwise once I learned it cannot be combined with the color/picture quality and accuracy of the ISP display. In my case, I will get the 3D display as an accessory. I have much more immediate use for color accuracy and only a scant secondary interest in developing more knowledge in 3D.

M6700 Covet arrived today. Even though I felt completely silly, I took unboxing photos.

    Quick observations-

The external battery slice is much nicer than I was expecting. Looks like it also has a charger port built in - so you may be able to plug a power adapter directly into the battery.

I can confirm that the HDD latch locking screw is the same size as the mSata screw.

I ordered the machine with 2 sticks of RAM and they were installed under the keyboard leaving the two bottom slots open. Will make adding more ram easier.

512gb SSD was the Samsung 830. Will be benchmarking.

IPS panel appears to be exactly the same as the non-covet. Only difference is the gorilla glass protecting it. Glare is less than the touchscreen in the M6600, but there is glare. Not a problem indoors.

Working to get pics of the Red color. Very deep red. Slight sparkle because of it is anodized aluminum.

Build quality appears to be good. No issues. Everything aligned.

Only issue is that the factory software image of W7-64 did not include the PremierColor software and the Dell Client Software update did not detect it. Not a big deal for me, but I worry that people won't know to download it. In my opinion, Dell should have shipped it installed.

Very very happy so far. Will post pics once holiday stuff settles down.

Why, do you live in the boondocks? Is it a parts/suppliers issue? What do they say to you? Did they charge your account?

I still have another 3 weeks or so before I get clearance to put in my order. I've already purchased almost all the upgrades save the RAM and OD (yes I still use this).

I had to send the Samsung SSD back because somehow I ended up with the 830 instead of 840 Pro (no wonder it was so cheap ). This machine will be my new editor; and I decided to get the software first due to the substantial holiday savings. I managed to get loads of software at great discounted prices.

I opted to use the traditional HDD @1 TB for the data/storage drive configuration. It is the 7200 RPM version which has me a little uncomfortable since WD only includes their name in small type. Did I make an error ordering this? I haven't opened the box yet.

Same here. I'm also waiting for my M6700 for almost a month now. And no, I don't live in the boondocks...

I ordered my M6700 on December 4th. The estimated delivery date was December 17th (and apparently still is ). Today, December 27th, it is still in production. :(

I called Dell Customer Support in The Netherlands on December 24th, early in the afternoon, but was unable to speak to anyone. I think they all took the afternoon off to do some late Christmas shopping...

Next, I tried chatting with Dell Sales, but got someone from Dell Tech Support on the chat instead. He was unable to answer my question on why it's taking so long to assemble and ship my M6700. He tried to connect me to my sales rep on chat, but she reported to be 'taking a break'. He asked me if he should connect me to Tech Support by phone, which puzzled me a bit. What an earth would be the point?

I decided to send an e-mail to my sales rep, because I was getting a bit p*ssed off and didn't want to loose my cool over the phone. I have not heard back from her yet and am still waiting for an answer.

same as Michiko, i've placed my order around the 4th of December...
says estimated delivery is Jan 4... but dunno...

for them to keep that delivery date, they will have to ship it out next tuesday latest... and that's new years day...
