I'll second this. Get a quote using this method. Then ask for a 3x40 series processor. They're literally the same price so, if your rep is good, it should be a drop-in change and you'll get a discount too.

Thanks for the advice. I guess it is just silly to order online. Talked to a friendly rep who was able to configure my m6700 with the 3940XM and it was $250 less than the online price. Plus, it has already entered "pre-production".

True, but if the 3x40s are available at the same price, I see no reason not to get the latest greatest (even if it is only marginally better).

I agree, but if you can get a better deal on the 3x20 variants, there is no reason not to go for it, that was my point, at equivalent price, it's a no brainer: get the faster CPU, but if you can save a good chunk of money because Dell wants to get rid of the older stock, why not take advantage of it.

In this case, the 3940xm was the same price as the 3920xm.

Also, my M6700 is already in production! That was fast considering it was stalled in "order processing" for a week before I cancelled it. But it all worked out for the best - I got the newer CPU and saved $250 :).

Not to burst your bubble, but mine was in production for nearly three weeks due to various delays. :(

It really depends, mine was in production for less than two weeks and arrived two days early (It's at the carrier's depot and i will pick it up later tonight or early tomorrow morning). The RAM i ordered is late though and will only arrive tomorrow...

Congrats. When is your system arriving? I'm hoping mine makes it out on the 11th as stated.

Well, that is better than being stuck in "order processing" indefinitely. I am just glad to see a status other than "order processing".

The "estimated delivery date" is the 15th. If I would have ordered it yesterday it probably would have been the 12th (before the weekend :()

True. My system went from Order Processing to In Production within a few hours after ordering it on Monday. They already shipped the optical bay hard drive caddy.

The Dell (USA) website still doesn't have the any of the 3x40 series processors listed. Alienware (USA) is offering the 3940QM (sic) now. Obviously someone at Dell needs to fix that typo.

Lol, maybe they locked the multipliers in a new bios revision? :p Typo definitely needs fixing.
