Just placed my order this morning with the Core i7-3940XM (Item# 319-1364). It should be arriving on October 11th.

Did you order online or through a rep? The 3x40 processors do not seem to be available for configuration online.

I did it through a rep. Actually, my rep's senior manager called to get it ordered this morning. He also knocked another thousand off the price so I paid a little over $4K for a fully loaded system (K5000M, IPS, 3940XM, etc) including tax and shipping so I'm very happy. I'm not sure if we're allowed to post rep info here but feel free to PM me.

Bokeh, the part number of GPU heatsink in your review is not focus, do you have other photo that shows the part number? Thank you.

I am ordering through Dell.ca so the rep info probably wouldn't help. Dell.ca currently has a fairly good promotion on the the Precisions. The configuration that I intend to order is $1300 cheaper than on Dell.com. Perhaps not as good as through a rep but not bad. Besides, given my recent experience with trying to get my recently canceled order out of "order processing" hell, I would be concerned that the rep would get my order entirely correct. Also, I have never been entirely comfortable haggling. I just hope that the 3x40 CPUs show up online soon since the Dell.ca promotions expire on Thursday.

What you should do is add the item to your cart and email it to your rep (there's an option to do that online). Ask for a better price by email. Then the rep will email you back a quote with all the stuff on your cart so you can double check. I got a better price by about 150$ by doing that so you might want to check it out, private msg me and i'll email you my rep (Canadian) email address.

Also, my guess is that the new CPU will be out when the promo is expired (that's why the promo is there, to get rid of inventory).

The clock speed is almost the same on the new 3x40 models so i don't see any reason not to get one with the 3x20 models.

You can also check whether your employer or university has a deal with Dell, you might be able to get a discount that way too.

@IR0NMAN, nice to see another member from the Montreal area. I gotta say, i was pleasantly surprised when i called Dell in French, i was expecting i would have difficulties understanding the rep, but i worried for nothing. :D The rep was way easier to understand then most reps i've talked to in English with various companies.

Yes, so they got 10 more hp, by changing the plugs. Take the deal and get 98% for a lot less. Ok, 95% but really?
