It is a little bit more than that. Intel XTU (Extreme Tuning Utility) works on notebook processors as well but it relies on BIOS support (amongst a few other things) to make necessary clock changes. Some companies (i.e. Mythlogic) will allow even non-XM CPUs to be run at their maximum turbo speed indefinitely. Ultimately, it comes down to the OEM. Lenovo and Dell, as this point in time (as far as I know), don't allow these changes in their business machines even on unlocked XM CPUs. I can play with XTU next week and check to see if this is correct. You might want to try to bump the clocks up 100Mhz on your CPU to see if anything changes.

Alienware definitely allows overclocking on the XM CPUs but I haven't checked to see if they allow non-XM CPUs to be bumped up within their Turbo specs. If Dell allowed it then I would happily flash an unsupported BIOS that allowed overclocking on XM (and even non-XM) CPUs on the M6700.

It is great memory and has always worked. Those are the same sticks I had in my old Lenovo W520 and plan to repurpose them in the M6700. Thanks for the update.

I just got my m6700 2 days ago and threw in two 8GB sticks (16GB total) of the Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz memory kit into the 2 memory slots underneath the bottom plate.

Been using for over a day and it works perfectly fine... no blue screens, crashes, etc.

Also of note, this is on Factory default Win 7 setup. I have yet to do a clean install to Win 8 which I plan on doing soon.

I don't think corsair makes 1866MHz 8GB SODIMMs, those are 1600MHz as far as i know.

You may be right and I may be wrong... will check again when I get home.

I did notice they do have 1866mhz versions of the 8GB kit though...

They had a 1866MHz 2x4GB kit, but the only 2x8GB kits i've seen are 1600MHz.

Patiently waiting for the touch screen version of the m6700, did anyone have experience with the touchscreen on the m6600? My question is, can you do photo editing with a stylus in photoshop on the touch screen. Is it as good as the cintiqs?
