Wich distro ? (Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS (Why not?^^), Fedora, ...) and what kind of tests ?

Why asking twice time ? One is enought... (on the same forum....)

Another advice: Use "Edit" function, when you're the last guy that have post, I hate to see more than 2 posts of the same person, with only one line each time !!!!
    Thanks...

Edit: And yes, it's available by Phone, not yet by the Dell website, don't know why.

it's too late for me, mine doesn't have fingerprint reader, but for those of you who ordered with one - what do you intend to use it for ? i couldn't think of any use for it ?

If you don't see any need for it - you don't really need it :)
Some have a security policy at work, others use it for convenience - swiping the finger vs typing the password all the time. You can probably boot by swiping instead of pressing the power button (my W510 does that).

I use it for preboot authentication, and windows authentication.

success ! tracked down 2 screws of correct size at a local laptop repair shop. paid 2 bucks. i had one other empty bay ( really small one ) in addition to the msata bay and i put the screws in both of them, so as not to lose the screws.

i basically took the screw out of wifi module and went with it to the shop. they had a guy there about 20 years old who was able to find essentially identical screws for me by eyeballing his collection of screws. i have to say you would need pretty good eyes to be able to tell if those screws are the same as they are tiny !

Yep its a convenient security device predominately for business application. I think sometimes we forget that that is the target audience for this device. Still wish I could excise the VGA though. :p

No way. I like being able to use a projector without needing an adapter or dongle. Just because it's an incredibly antiquated port doesn't mean it's not still incredibly useful in a business context.

The one you prefer/using. Lets say Arch.

    Just asking.

To check to see if the hardware is working for distro effectively.

    Alright, and you're welcome.

    Oh ok, thanks.

Great thread, thanks for all the info. Bokeh, since you basically stripped the laptop to the motherboard, did you consider removing the heatsinks and putting on some aftermarket thermal paste?
