Yes. But make sure you have a 240 watt power adapter.

I'm running the release preview and will switch to the final version on Wednesday. See my posts in this thread for details on the issues.

in my experience it is probably best to wait until service pack 1 with any microsoft release. it's basically a beta test until SP1 with microsoft.

You're welcome to do whatever works best for you. I've always upgraded right at RTM.

i upgraded to vista right away ... that was a huge mistake. no matter how much ram i threw at it it was slow as a snail, and it took many years before i could get any stable soundcard drivers even though i switched several soundcards. they never did get it right, they just switched to 7.

the whole transition to 64 bit was a mess. vista didn't work because it was just garbage and 64 bit XP didn't work because nobody wanted to make drivers for it.

that's actually how i ended up using Apple ...

but 7 is as light as OSX, i really like it. can't think of any reason why i would want to switch. 7 today is as fast as XP was when Vista came out - i should have just stuck with XP then, and i will stick with 7 until there is consensus that upgrading to 8 is a good idea.

microsoft always puts out a lot of hype about how the new system is faster and more secure - but all of that is a bunch of hot air. new system for the most part is just buggier and less supported most of the time.

i would like to try 8 on microsoft surface pro, but not on a desktop or laptop.

but i remember when vista came out i really wanted to switch for some strange reason ... so i guess i understand.

So then you wait until all the bug are worked out. Though with Vista that wasn't until the launch of Windows 7. As for W8 I see no compelling reason to switch. Not one. Does it even launch any faster?

For what it's worth, I installed the release preview of Windows 8 on a 3 1/2 year old Dell XPS 1530 laptop, and it runs fine on it. No touch screen mind you, but it runs fine. In that version I could still get around having to use the Metro interface most of the time, although some things take a perplexing number of additional steps to do compared to Windows 7. I don't understand why Microsoft constantly changes how people do things in their OS, that's not productive - but that's a topic for another thread.

Why isn't there a 3 year completecare accidental damage protection option?
