You can run the system with no MXM card. It will use the Intel HD graphics. Digital display outputs will not work (DisplayPort and HDMI).

Pretty sure my K5000M had thermal pads on the bottom of the GPU card when I got it so I've always carried them over to new cards. Not sure how necessary they actually are.

ok guys i went ahead and used the amd FirePro 5100 gpu heatsink on the nvidia quadro m2000m,
i had some pretty thick blue thermal pad stuff around and some good AS7 and figured i would try it.
i through the card in and rebooted into safe mode and uninstalled amd drivers
i then modded the nvdmwi.inf and then installed drivers fine
i am rebooted and at desktop and gpu-z is reporting 49C
    thats a good thing.

    now the bad
i cant see me main laptop screen. its on but its black and then i see it start to get a progressively worse white image like burning into the screen so i shut laptop off

i since have attached a external monitor through hdmi and vga and it also did not work correctly until i close the laptop screen and then the external monitor starts working
ok so when im at windows 10 desktop with external monitor on i can duplicated screen but my main laptop screen is still black but on. i know this because when i tell nvidia to output only to external monitor i then see my laptop main display turn off or go blacker.

anyhow i think i had a pretty good success except i want to use my main display not an external hdmi or external vga.
thanks and any help would be appreciated.

Is this with graphics switching (Optimus) on or off in the BIOS setup?
With graphics switching on, the laptop display should be driven by the Intel GPU, so there is no reason the dGPU should cause something like this.
You should be able to run in either configuration but I keep Optimus on with my M6700+M5000M because it does have some strange behaviors if I have Optimus off. (Never seen this one before though.)

If you cannot get to the BIOS setup to check, you can pull the CMOS coin-cell battery to reset the BIOS to default settings. Default settings have graphics switching on.

    this was correct solution.
i rebooted into bios and checked my video switching and it was disabled eventhough when i started this process it was enabled.
ok so i switched it to enable and main display is working.
    thank-you.

im reporting back with a pretty big issue im having.

to get 3d apps/games to work with the nvidia m2000m and not the the i7-4800mq built-in graphics (hd-4600) i have to either close my laptop lid or in windows 10 settings i have to switch display output from "duplicate" to "monitor 2" only.
this works the same way with the bios "switchable graphics" enabled or disabled but w4hen it is set to enabled the hd-4600 does output to the main display #1 with no external device attached
if set to disabled with no external monitor you will not see any display info from bios or windows/linux. the screen comes on black and then starts to change to a white color that gets brighter and brigher until you hit power off really quickly

anyhow i want my 3d apps/games to output to the laptops main display with no external monitor attached and NOT use the built-in intel hd-4600 but use the nvidia quadro m2000m

why am i having this issue?

You did the INF mod wrong. I ran into this when I first did the M5000M and several other users have as well. Review my post on performing the INF mod and take note that there are Optimus on and Optimus off device IDs in the INF file. If you swap in the wrong one you will end up with Optimus not working, and everything will be rendered with the Intel graphics adapter.

i think i have 3 seperate areas of two lines that i alter

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13B0.06D9.1028% = Section050, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13B0&SUBSYS_05CC1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13B0.16D9.1028% = Section052, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13B0&SUBSYS_15CC1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13B0.06D9.1028% = Section050, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13B0&SUBSYS_05CC1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13B0.16D9.1028% = Section052, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13B0&SUBSYS_15CC1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13B0.06D9.1028% = Section049, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13B0&SUBSYS_05CC1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13B0.16D9.1028% = Section051, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13B0&SUBSYS_15CC1028

since my dell precision m4800 came with the amd firepro m5100 and not this nvidia quadro m2000m i used what gpu-z showed me for subsystem i.d. when i toggle switchable graphics on and off
    "05CC" and "15CC"
    so i substituited that.
    is that correct?
when i switch to disable switchable i get no main display when there is no external display attached.

when switchable graphics is enabled everything with the intel hd 4600 looks ok at desktop but when i run "Valley" benchmark it says im using M2000M but it benchmarks like im using the same intel hd 4600
pretty much like its reporting the wrong card because the numbers are identical to the hd 4600

    one more thing.
i have dual boot system. ubuntu 18.04 desktop amd64.
i believe im getting the same behavior but i did not modify and nvidia binary driver settings in an inf file.
    i just selected install
if i run glbench or other benchmark apps it not showing nvidia gpu working.
    it showing intel cpu.

You'll notice that the subsystem ID is different by "0" or "1" depending on whether Optimus is on or off.
The meaning or the 0 and 1 changed with the Precision 7510 so you have to swap them when you do your substitution. If you flip-flop the IDs then you will get a case when things appear to be working but the NVIDIA GPU won't render anything (exactly what you're experiencing).
Again, I show exactly what substitution I make with my M6700/M5000M in the post I linked above. Yours should be similar but with different IDs. Pay attention to the different Optimus on/off subsystem ID values and don't make assumptions.

The battery is easy to reach, it is visible when you take the bottom panel off.

very similar except our laptop ids are different and the gpu also as im using the m2000m.
it sounds like you are correct about flipping the id's but what about in ubuntu?
i use the nvidia-settings to pick which gpu to use i can also do it from terminal with 'sudo prime-select intel' or sudo prime-select nvidia' but it always says its using the intel-gpu when i goto render anything
even when it shows the correct gpu is selected either through sudo prime-select intel/nvidia or through the nvidia-settings where you can pick.

ok back to windows in case you dont have ubuntu/linux.
i will try and switch those 05CC and 15CC around and see what happens.
    thanks
