My system is almost identical to ssj92 above /\/\
Dell Precision M4800 (A25 Bios with Switchable Graphics Option)
    LVDS (FHD built-in display)
AMD Raedon M5100 (but shows up in amd software as r200x.

anyhow i would also like to take the leap here.
i have read almost every post twice in this thread.

so.... is the best card to get the WX 4150 (RX 460m) / (RX 560m) or the quadro m2200m or should it be the gtx 965m.
im having problems finding the right blend of least problems and my money and their hp bios crap.
    im confused.
    thanks
i do want to use my internal lvds fhd display if i can.
does that mean i cant use wx 4150?
since my original gpu is the m5100 i cant use nvidia because of hsf?

There is apparently a GTX 1650 MXM A coming soon, until then I believe the 965M or M2200M are slightly faster than the WX and support LVDS natively, but are more expensive afaik.
Edit: There is apparently a RX 560 MXM A, which should be the best for the M4800 as of now? There also appears to be a 1050/ti MXM, but that likely won't work with the M4800 as pascal.

I am totally expecting any Turing cards (i.e. GTX 1650) to have the same issue as Pascal cards regarding conflicts with the vBIOS preventing boot. However, I guess we won't know for sure until someone tries it.

ok i took the plunge and ordered the m2000m (dell bios/branded) at least thats what is said in the ebay listing for $100 + $7 for tax in my state of Iowa here in the USA.. It is 4GB so looking forward to that.
just not sure what problems im going to run into.

01 Will my heat sink fan for my AMD gpu work with the Nvidia gpu?
02 Will I need to install a fan controlling app? (i am mostly plugged into wall outlet)
03 Will I need to do anything special to take care of heat?
04 Will I need to mod an ".nfo" file for the driver to recognize the video card and install drivers?
05 Will I need to flash the m2000m with a special bios?
06 Will my thermal pads from my amd gpu work with the nvidia gpu?
07 Will my main 1080P FHD 15.6" LCD display work when i power on laptop?
08 Leave Switchable Graphics option enabled in bios when going from amd gpu to a nvidia gpu 1st boot?
i sure wish this laptop had an nvidia gpu in it already as im going to an nvidia gpu now and am worried about my amd gpu heat sink might not work with nvidia...
any info you guys can add about going from amd m5100 to nvidia m2000m would be awesome but any info is great.
    thanks

I have the I7-4800MQ and 4x4GB ram and two 240GB SSD in Raid-0
Dell Precision M4800 (A25 Bios with Switchable Graphics Option)
    LVDS (FHD built-in display)
AMD Raedon M5100 (but shows up in amd software as r200x in Windows 10 Pro 64bit)

    btw...
i had about a $100 to work with at this moment in time.
it was down to an xbox one for $120 with 2 controllers, kinect, guitar, mic and about 9 games with a couple being descent or look on ebay for a gpu.
i wanted to get the m2200 but i also looked at m1200 and wx4150 and tried to find gtx 965m and amd 9260 but i couldnt find crap not even rx 460 or rx 560
    i seen the m2000m for about $150 - $200 mostly.
    HP branded were cheaper.
i think for $107 total it should be a nice upgrade over the amd m5100 / r9 m200x.
i can live with having to modify the .nfo file for new nvidia driver installs but if it gets worse then that im worried.

01 There are separate heatsinks for NVIDIA and AMD GPU. You can find an NVIDIA heatsink on eBay for less than $10.
    02 No.
03 No (other than making sure that appropriate components are covered with thermal pads; you should be able to re-use ones from your old card).
04 You will need to mod an INF file. See this post for a starting point.
05 Most likely not if it was pulled from a Dell system.
    06 Yes.
    07 Yes.
08 I would recommend having switchable graphics on at first boot. Do note though that you will have to jump through hoops to get the driver installed again if you change switchable graphics to on or off.

it looks like there are 3 different part numbers for 3 different heatsinks
1 for amd and 2 for nvidia
my heatsink "C7KH5" is for "54K79" Venus GPU which in my case is m5100 / r9 m200x
the other two part numbers are CF7NG and FC16M which are showing "NVIDIA" gpu heatsinks.
im not sure which model to get for the m2000m yet. still researching.
i have 3 tabs open with the different pictures of the 3 parts i listed and they all looks alot alike.

do you think i can get away with using my amd gpu heatsink on the nvidia m2000m?

I imagine either NVIDIA heatsink will work. AMD heatsinks of this era have a die with less height than NVIDIA's, which is why a different heatsink is needed for good contact. I would personally not chance mismatching them.
