Then the best card, assuming you could get eDP or eDP conversion, would be the WX4150. Multiple have managed to get it to work in the M4800, but it needed a shim for one of them I believe

Nah, i'd just use another screen. Most of the time I have had it closed lately anyways. Which is why I was considering this scenario.

Who knows, me and a friend are thinking about diving into Linux so I may just save my money and get a System76 machine.

@Game7a1 hey man, have you done any bios mods (computer or gpu) with your upgrade? Is vbios change needed with ati cards, as nvidia cards needed? Do you need to mod drivers? Does it work out of box?

Nope. Just plug and play. If you're installing the RX 460 or 560, then I recommend uninstalling the Radeon Pro drivers before the GPU swap and then installing the regular Radeon drivers afterwards.
I am on the latest BIOS, though. Not sure if that changes anything.

And what do you think? How is that card comparing to m2200m, gtx965 and 1050?

    Yes, stock cooling.
I mentioned RX 560 since I assume the procedures would be very similar. I got an RX 460 (drivers detect it as a 560D, which is essentially the same GPU).
I would put the performance of the RX 460/560D mobile around the likes of the 1050 Max-Q and GTX 965m Rev 1 (the one with lower clocks).
