Check the spec, the dock is powered by the displaylink chipset and the displaylink software is required to make it work.

    Indeed!

Is the long delay in announcing the new 4 and 6 series Precision mobile workstations due to a chassis redesign? A redesign based on styling ques similar to the 3800? I can't see why they would otherwise take this long when considering that the Ivy Bridge Precisions were announced end of July in 2012.

Can we expect an announcement about the new 4 and 6 series Precisions on September 13, and additional details of the 3800?

    Thank you.

There is no chassis redesign with the 4800 & 6800.

Thank you, Knruff. Do you have a source for that info?

It's not unprecedented that a company like DELL would release mis-information like that to keep sales steady while they get ready to release a significant upgrade. Given that the m3800 exists a chassis redesign (or, at least a restyle) makes more sense.

    Cheers

Does anyone know if the 3800 will be shipping with the newer C2 stepping of the Intel Haswell chipset? I can't seem to find anyone in Dell that knows the answer. The C1 stepping for the mobile chipsets QM87, HM87 and HM86 has a minor hardware flaw that Intel announced back in March, but the new C2 stepping wasn't available until this mid-July.

I can't wait to get more details from Dell-Mano when he can do it. Nice to see that Dell reps are checking this thread. Some are saying that September 12th is the day where we get those. Today we got some info about the Sony Fit/Flip 15, was very unimpressed by it, ULV CPU, very low grade dGPU. I hope the M3800 will deliver (not counting the keyboard :().

Yoga2 Pro with 3200x1800 to ship in oct. Most likely to coincide with the 8.1 release date. I think dell might be inclined to push it that far unless they are willing to ship it with Win 8 unprofessional or Windows 7 professional.

Has anyone heard if the 1080p display option will have similar characteristics to the 1800 panel (100% of sRGB, has 400 nits of brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio) ? Also will it be matte and non-touch?
