I have done some Photoshop work on the image of the bottom of the M3800. If you convert to B&W and boost individual colors, you can see that what is behind the vents on the left side if obscured by the vents themselves. You are only seeing the sides of the cutouts themselves - not what is behind them. I also see what looks like the heatsink thinning out in the middle of the machine and then getting wider as it gets closer to the left side. Unfortunately the heatsink also becomes obscured by the vent cutouts.

If the heatsink is wishbone shaped, it would explain it getting narrower in the middle. It would also support the theory of a second fan. The fact that the air intake on the bottom goes all the way across also supports the idea of at second fan.

Don't forget physics either. I don't see how a single fan with blades that narrow will be able to move enough CFM of air to cool the CPU and GPU. This system has to have 2 fans.

Does it look like the backlit keyboard has blue light?

Discussing the fans? Isn't the photo obvious enough? There's only one outside facing fan, and there are no side fans.

How many fans did the XPS 13 have? Does this thing even have the room?

The backlit keyboard looks blue in the photo, but white backlit keyboards often look blueish in pictures. I would expect it to be white.

The XPS 13 only has one fan. Given that the Macbook Pro Retina has two fans there should be enough space for two in this one as well. I don't think the picture is conclusive at all. A second fan could easily be obscured. On the other hand Thinkpads have been using only one fan, so it's not unthinkable that Dell would go with a single powerful fan. However, like Bokeh, I think that several factors point towards a two fan design in this case.

Blue can easily look white depending on your color balance. I'd guess white since that's the typical backlit color.

AKA a trend driven product. Young people are eager to buy. Older professionals think to much.

I think you are onto something here. It does look like there might be a second fan on the left side. The heatpipe is curved in a symmetrically similarly to rMBP and some asus notebooks. But given 18mm thickness, I doubt even two fans will be able to successfully cool down both a full voltage quad and mid-range GPU. rMBP doesn't have a good cooling with a similar setup and Haswell quads seem to run even hotter...

Yeah, blue wouldn't make sense, it just looks overwhelmingly blue in my screen, which I think displays colour quite well unlike some monitors.

Two fans would be great, I just thought the photo makes it very clear there is only one, that view seems conclusive at least to me.

I hope they are smart and offer UL or at least dual core or 4702MQ. Which I think is only logical. No reason for the base model to have 4700.

Also, the "rumours" of a 1699 to 1999 starting price range are hard to swallow. I mean, XPS 13 already goes for 1699 with the 256GB SSD and no discrete graphics, in a 13 inch frame. Considering this is comparable to the Ultrabook class, there would be no price discount relative to lightweight and long lasting Ultrabooks - if anything there'd be a price premium due to the bigger screen size (without much added weight), and the graphics card.

After using a m6600 for 2 years it's soooo tempting to get something light... I'm just wondering about the specs for the wigig dock or whatever...

I'm running 3 displays off the dock now, and no matter how light the 3800 might be compared to the 4800 or 6800, I'm not going back :)...

Does anyone have any specs for that wireless dock? is it the D5000? ... if it is... maybe I could live with the 3rd monitor running from a usb adapter... (right now, that "3rd" monitor is running off vga, I just leave my email and im client windows up there)

I doubt they getting a new wigig dock out. The wigig dock display output is NOT native to the gpu. Essentially it is a wireless usb adapter.

The WiGig dock, if it will indeed come with WiGig and the D5000, uses the 60Ghz wireless band. So it is able to carry uncompressed video signal over a very short distance. It is also able to carry USB and ethernet.

Google for some reviews, I've read reports that it does 1200p with audio as long as you are within 10ft.

Looks like the wired USB dock would be a better choice then. Better performance and no RF radiation or interference.

I have a U3014 monitor running at 2560x1600 and a U2010 running at 1920x1200 as a second panel. As long as the miniDP port on the M3800 is version 1.2, I can daisy chain compatible monitors. DP 1.2 supports two 2560×1600 monitors or four 1920×1200 monitors daisy chained with one cable with all of the monitors having independent settings and refresh rates.

So 3 connections - USB 3.0 dock, MiniDP, AC power. That's not too bad. If you were running a pair of 24" monitors, you could drop the MiniDP and be down to 2 plugs.
