Pretty unlikely to be dual-only, shirley. The M3800 intrigues me, but will I have to keep popping bits of casing back in on a regular basis?

Haha, nice one, Knruff. Yeah, they are indeed the same chassis. Looks like HP have refreshed the chassis for their workstation line, the zBooks.

However, I'm not so sure about purchasing a zBook (click on the Consumer Rights section at the top of the page):

Looks like HP have been having a few issues and now they are getting smacked for not handling those issues correctly or ethically.

Spec wise, w540 probably is the more perfect package in 15" imo, but buttonless trackpoint and trackpad..grrr
If they have cto w540 with real buttons, it will so beat the 4800 and zbook unless open gl matters.

3800 probably compete with t540p and the w.e 14" new zbook.

Yeah, the case shape looks like consumer level machines. I loved the boxy design of the HP 8X60w's and 8X70w's and the colors (apart from that silver part under the screen and the half-sized up/down arrow keys), but the cooling seemed to be lacking and the HPs for some reason seem to be somewhat stingy on the configurations (most I saw were with i5 or i7 dual cores or even X6XX series of QMs, not to mention it's rare to find a stronger Quadro there) which are also overpriced compared to Dells (I'm commenting on prices of refurbished machines, not the brand new ones).

HP has some pretty beefy configs too, but CTO outside of the US is a real pain, it's the main reason why Dell got my money instead of HP. HP usually gives you good discounts if you haggle and I guess it's reflected in their prices. Having seen the 8770w in person, I can say that they had class for sure.

The more I think about the M3800, the more I'm saying to myself if only it had a docking port, then even despite its looks, I'd be considering it. If dell rolls our some kind of WiG converter that fits the e family dock, they might win me over. I'll still whine about the look of the M3800, but to be realistic, I'd likely get used to it eventually. A WiG adapter I could put in my M6700 would also work, then I could still have a 1 dock solution for both notebooks.

Honestly, it's the better side IMO for me historically - given the choice between a Precision or an HP Elitebook for example, if it's going to be your only machine it's a no brainer IMO - the HP's take it. Thing is, at least for me, the Dells are so much cheaper for the same thing under the hood so if it's a machine I'm not gluing myself onto 24/7, there's no contest - I'd buy a Dell. Just two phone calls for the bulk of my current Precisions for example and they folded something ridiculous (admittedly I was buying other more valuable stuff, but I bargained pretty hard for those too), whereas my HP reseller is much more non-moveable (under the same conditions).

    HP in my eye
    pretty
    whitelist (fixed)
single fan (maybe a con maybe not)
lack of gpu choice (which lead to outrageous price)
ugly keyboard, ugly ugly ugly. Can they fix the damn arrow keys? arrow keys with page up/down next to them is just awesome.
    outrageous list price (still is)

Even the hp dock is more expensive ffs ~~
