Regarding windows 10, it was not difficult for me to jump into it. I jumped straight into it on my older m6500 before I bought my 7710. I kept a much older laptop running 8.1 to the side as a backup, but I never needed to resort to using it. Is there any advantage to going 10 particularly for SSDs? I don't think so, except is nice to be current because soon/eventually the old OS will die out

Also waiting for the 950 Pro 1TB, but I'm getting mixed rumors on release date. I thought it would have been released by now.

Has anyone gotten the TB dock fully working on Linux? I'm able to get video and power working (with the a 4.5 kernel and latest development snapshot Intel drivers - 2.99.917_p20160423), but the other stuff (ethernet and external USB ports, and audio) are all non-working.

Other than that, the machine runs like a dream under Linux.

could anyone tell me what country the 5510 is made in? Dell just told me it's being made in the US (assembled), but I've seen a few tear down pictures that look like the label says China... maybe they moved some of the assembly to the US to be able to sell to the government? Thanks!

    hi guys
    just got my 5510 today (xeon, 32g, 4k, 500g nvme + 500g hdd, win10)
i went through this topic pages and got confused by all the updated available for the machine.
    could someone please explain:

which updates should i install first thing?
should i update any drivers other than the bios?
are there certain configurations i should make before and after updating the bios?

i actually never dealt with this stuff by myself (didnt do it on my last laptop)
are all the updates like "double click the update icon on windows screen" or is there something more complex than that?

    thanks alot!!
    Rami

Don't forget, that free upgrade to Windows 10 will finish in July ($120 afterwards).

(I'm pleased with Win10 on my home computer. Can not upgrade my work Precision M4700 due to corporate restrictions. But will be ordering 5510 with Win 10, no doubts)

If you order with the Win 7 downgrade don't you also receive win 10 rights?

It looks like the following question has been asked periodically, however nobody has answered it. Does the laptop throttle CPU when performing intensive tasks (specifically Xeon processor)? Notebookcheck noticed significant clock reductions and I was wondering if it was just their model or all Precision 5510s.
