    Thanks. Yes I will try a different power adapter and have them replace it under warranty if that turns out to be what it is. Shame, though, it is brand new out of the box.

    First 5510 hitting another problem after I handed it off to someone to start doing some actual work... "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED" BSOD every hour or so. Doing some reading, it looks like this is not unusual when the SATA mode is set to AHCI? I've been running on AHCI in my 7510 for about a week with no trouble at all. I switched it to RAID and loaded the proper Intel driver, we'll see if it continues.

    Hey Guys,

    Having some weird slow issues with the PM951 512GB in my new M5510.

    Read 1544
    Write 564
    4K Read - 36MB/s!!!
    4K Write - 127MB/s!!

    I've been going back and forth, this is in AHCI mode with the Samsung NVMe driver for the 950 Pro installed. Using the default Intel RAID mode with the RST drivers literally it TIMES out when trying to run the 4K benchmarks!!

    I see issues littered all over about this stupid SSD, any thoughts?

    those do seem a bit low, just be aware that 4k read write aren't going to be super huge numbers. My PM951 results are here (bottom of that post)

    OEM Samsung Crystal Disk Mark PCIe SSD
    I have bios set to RAID with latest Intel RST and F6 drivers. I'm not using the Samsung drivers at all.

    If you like I can PM you screenshots of my driver versions, etc

    So I finally made the switch to the Samsung 950, and everything runs great except the boot time is HORRENDOUS!! With the PM951 it took around 25 seconds to boot and get to the Windows log on screen. With the 950, it takes 57 seconds to get to the log on screen. I know its less than a minute from my day, but I wouldnt have expected the boot time to become worse with switching out the drive. Same image, updated Intel RST and latest BIOS. Can anyone with the drive share their boot times, and what settings they have in BIOS?

    Thank you, it looks like you're running a 7710 though, aren't drivers going to be different as it's a different chipset?

    NVMe storage drivers should be the same regardless of chipset; it's bypassing the host's SATA controller.

    Hi all, I am looking for a photo editing laptop and hope some of you guys can answer some of my questions:

    1. How is the quality of the FHD screen? I am looking for a photo editing laptop so viewing angles are important to me, does it cover at least 90% sRGB?

    2. What kind of battery life are you guys getting after all of the updates? Particularly ones with the smaller battery and the FHD screen.

    3. Is the GPU soldered or is on a MXM socket? Also, it fair to compare the Quadro® M1000M to a Geforce GTX 950M?

    4. How is the durability so far? I am looking for a machine that will last me at least four years.

    5. Is there a reason why 1tb is the max regular spinning hard drive size offered on the Dell website? Why not a max of 2TB like on the Precision 7510?

    I think its a close race between the Precision 5510 and the Precision 7510. My reason for getting the 5510 if ever would be:
    - for lighter travel weight at the expense of some GPU performance.
    - Assumingly better FHD panel than that of the 7510
    - Slight cheaper after M.2 SSD upgrades and RAM
    - Amaze people that its not a mac :p

    What do you guys thinks? And thanks a bunch :)

    1 It is 70% coverage I think. 4K csreen covers 99%.
    2 for 4K screen it won't last so long, maybe FHD can last around 4h
    3 GPU is soldered
    4 I think you can get 2TB, 1TB doesn't like a limit
    5 If you don't need M1000M, just take xps 15, you can save some money.

    Thanks for the reply!

    1. Do you mean sRGB or AdobeRGB? What I am after is sRGB since its the color space that I will be using.

    5. If you are talking about the cheapest configuration of the XPS15 and the 5510, the Precision 5510 is the cheaper of the 2 actually. Its just frustrating with the XPS15 line that a lot of the features that I would want that are locked on higher priced configurations.

    XPS15 = USD 1,907.99
    Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad Core
    Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit,
    8GB DDR4-2133MHz;
    256GB PCIe Solid State Drive (there is no option to change this from what I can tell unless I move to the next preconfigured model)
    Smaller battery option
    3 year basic warranty with accidental damage

    5510 = USD 1,873.00
    Intel® Core™ i7-6820HQ Quad Core
    Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit,
    8GB DDR4-2133MHz;
    500GB 2.5 inch SATA 7200
    Smaller battery option
    3 year basic warranty with accidental damage

    According to this review of the xps 9550 (should use the same FHD screen as the m5510), sRGB was at 98%:
