The 5510's are no longer for sale according to the dell website? Anybody have any idea why this is?! I love both my units and have had zero problems with them.

Also, for other users out there, I got a usb 3 dock that I've been using to run additional 2 panels and my peripherals and it's worked without a hitch. Would definitely recommend doing that instead of forking over 300 for a usb-c dock unless you want to power multiple 4k displays.

Oh this is just bloody fantastic. I installed Dell's thermal drivers after installing the chipset drivers. Then nvidia drivers. Now, laptop refuses to boot - even to BIOS. It powers on, keyboard and power button lights up, and turns off after a while. Holding D while pressing power button shows some pretty colours on the screen. Is there some secret way to hold some key to make it boot up?

While it's "powered on", pressing the power button again makes the fan rev up very fast, and then shut down.

I'm beginning to think this is a faulty unit. For a £3K machine, this is by far the worst hassle I've ever had to deal with on any laptop (or desktop for that matter).

Joy...called up Dell. They'll send a guy tomorrow to replace the motherboard. I doubt that'll fix blue screening. I sure hope it does.

Phone guy also told me not to use Dell Update or Dell Precission optimizer as it will install thigs not meant for my laptop. Which is a) weird, and b) wrong coz it only installed the "latest" drivers as per Dells website. And the clean install I did of Windows didn't have either installed.

I've never trusted either of those programs. It's not too hard to download them manually from the site just for the stuff you need or want.

@alexhawker : yup. But in this case, I downloaded the latest manually from the Dell website. I imagine it needs a cmos reset - likely the thermal driver put it in a state where it can't boot. But Dell's answer to most of these cases is "motherboard gone, we'll replace it". It really worries me that a fresh install of Windows 10 with the latest Intel Graphics and NVidia drivers blue screens. And I couldn't find a version pair that works. Perhaps it's the 1.1.15 BIOS that's causing the issue. I think I had 1.0.7 before. I'll give that a go once this is unbricked.

not sure you can, they didn't have that config when I ordered in early Dec. I got the 16 and then replaced with two 16 chips from g.skill (should have just ordered with 8!)

I only ordered mine with 8GB (and later upgraded to 32GB from crucial). The 8GB stick I took out was a Samsung M471A1G43EB1-CPB.

I have been looking at systems this week. Currently seeing:

    32GB, DDR4-2133MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMMS, Non-ECC [add $279.00]
    8GB (1x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC [Included in Price]
    16GB (2x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC [add $109.00]

I know I can get the RAM from newegg for around $210-220, but it seems to all have the word value in the name. If was just hoping someone had gotten the 32GB option and could tell me if Dell was using higher end RAM. $60 price difference is worth not having to have a tech swap in the RAM and then have 2 warranties going. If the quality of the RAM from Dell is higher, that will be another huge reason.

Is there some way to do a hard cmos reset (i.e. same effect as removing the CMOS battery for a minute)? If not, is it possible to do something similar by opening the back cover (without also removing the whole motherboard? A picture here http://www.ihowfix.com/dell-precision-5510-disassembly-ram-ssd-upgrade-guide/ seems to show the cmos battery is on the upper side of the motherboard, which would suggest simply opening the back cover isn't enough. I imagine the XPS 15 would have a similar scenario. Any ideas?
