I'm having BSOD issues again. It seemed stable after using Samsung's NVMe controller driver (apart from the no disk on soft reboot issue). Something updated last night, and it seems that I can't run the machine unless I disable both display adapters in safe mode. If I enable the Intel HD driver, it BSODs within a few seconds. If I enable the NVidia one, it can BSOD a while later, and always BSODs when shutting down the machine / restarting. I'm using the latest BIOS, chipset drivers, and video drivers from Dell's website. Anybody got a clue how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

I've gone back and forth with various driver versions. It seems that the one always in the crash dumps is the Intel Graphics driver (igdkmd64.sys). Nothing seems to work as long as the Intel Graphics is enabled. And the NVidia card doesn't kick in unless the Intel one is enabled (weird, and annoying). I'm on the brink of reinstalling Windows to see if things improve, but it'd likely have the same issue. I think the only thing that's updated to the latest version are the chipset drivers, which seem to be running fine.

Try doing a fresh install of Windows OS and see if it behaves the same. After the setup is completed, Windows will most likely have installed basic Intel drivers. Do your BSOD tests before installing any Dell drivers. If it passes the test, start to install the Dell drivers one by one and test for BSOD.

The BSOD test is essentially enabling Intel Graphics with Intel drivers. Microsoft basic drivers work. Intel drivers cause an almost instant BSOD. I kind of thinking it's playing poorly with some other chipset driver, as this was definitely not the case two days ago.

Welcome to the brave new world of Windows 10. This could not happen in Windows 7, and my daughter's 5510 (Windows 7) is rock solid.

This is most likely because the NVidia card's output is wired through the Intel one (to support Optimus).

To be fair, on this occasion it was Dell's updater at fault. I wish the linux drivers were up to par, though.

I was about to ask if anyone was running 7 or 8.1 on a 5510.

Win10 is kinda pretty but jeez cannot even sleep properly. I am tempted revert to 7 or 8.1, both of which were solid. 7's a little slow to wake up / boot, and of course 8.1 is a bit odd for a laptop, but...

Has anyone ordered the 5510 with 32GB of RAM from Dell? The pricing on it is not that far off from buying it from Newegg since it is stock and covered by the system warranty. Just curious about what kind of RAM they are shipping with the machine.

Things are looking bad. Fresh Win 10 install installed with basic drivers. Installed wifi driver to download stuff. On internet connection, it auto fetched Intel and NVidia graphics, and has been blue screening since. Does anybody have a working Windows 10 setup working? What versions of the graphics cards are you using, and what driver are you using for NVMe? Which chipset drivers are you using?
