I've had a few days to play with my 5510 and pleased overall with the value and performance. I tried to balance cost vs. performance, so I stuck with the base processor & display (which looks nice). My upgrades consisted of 16GB RAM, 256 SSD M.2, and the 500GB 7200 HD in the second slot which will primarily be used to host VM's. I couldn't find anything else that offered this level of quality and features for the price.

    Does anyone know
    1. What is the speed of USB Type C port on Dell Precision 5510 - 40Gbps or 20Gbps?
    2. How long will Dell sell 5510 with 30% off discount?
Want to wait until March because currently BIOS is buggy and Linux Kernel 4.3 is not yet officially supported in Fedora which I want to install alongside Windows 10 Pro + Nvidia Quadro drivers are not yet released for Fedora.

Don't know about the first one, but the answer to the second is "forever". Those "discounts" that you see are phony, and have nothing to do with reality. Without that "discount", those machines would not be sellable. So, the "discounted" price is the real price, the other one is just make-believe.

They do vary slightly, and it's possible that it might go up temporarily. Odds are, though, that the pricing will only go down as the machine has been on the market longer.

The Color Accuracy chart makes no sens, as the 4K display measures 100% AdobeRGB

Funny how the back light is lower per step in Windows 10 than Windows 7. Step 2 was 120cd/m2 in Windows 7 and I have to go to step 3 for 124cd/m2 in Windows 10.

I do like the Precision 5510 offerings versus the XPS15 since these are more configurable and at current prices not much more expensive than the XPS15. Having said that the XPS15 is available at more retailers and sometimes heavily discounted.

    My 2 cents

Sorry for the late reply. If by warm boot you mean cold booting the laptop and booting in windows and then issuing a restart command? if so, yes, i have done multiple Restarts after signed into Windows and had no issues booting back into Windows 10. As for the Intel RST, i haven't installed them. Did a fresh install by setting AHCI in the BIOS and installed windows 10 using UEFI. After the install completed successfully, I installed the chipset drivers and other dell drivers (except Intel RST) found on the website. Finally I loaded the Samsung NVME drivers.

yet the fake-discount lets me say that I bought a $5,000 laptop which makes people's head spin.

btw I think I've made my peace with the keyboard. flirted briefly with the thinkpad P50, but it is more than a pound heaver for the same processing power. sorry but I don't need 3 hard-drive slots.
