Can't wait to purchase these. How long is the thunderbolt cable attached?

Alright, I am getting very frustrated with this computer. My machine really feels like a beta version. So many problems that just shouldn't be happening.

I got computer and switched to AHCI mode in BIOS (I don't have 2 HDs and an not using any cacheing, etc. Therefore, no need to load RAID driver stack on boot, and no need to load intel RSM into OS to speed things up.) Additionally, I need AHCI for Ubuntu support.

I start getting BSODs on heavy workload - "Unexpected Store Exception". The BSOD would freeze at 0% and not collect data so there was no memory dump to analyze. After confirming several times that all drivers were installed correctly (minus Dell bloatware) I began the epic support engagement.

After running diagnostics, it flagged my SSD (512 M.2) as faulty ("Failed to send DST short"). Dell dispatched a new one right away (points to them). I installed and set up windows, but upon running diagnostics again, it again flagged new drive as faulty in same way. However, then the Jan 5th BIOS update came and I updated that, and VIOLA - new SSD passes diagnostics. My hunch is that the old one would pass diagnostics as well, but it was already gone.

Unfortunately, BSOD continued. Support elevates my case. I do not hear back for 2 days.

Meanwhile, there's a lot of discussion on the XPS 15 (brother computer) about the M.2 drivers being bad. In fact, around the internet everyone is remarking about how the windows NVMe drivers are bad, and you need to make sure that you install Samsung's. More info here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-hardware-and-software-problems.784691/page-4

But just the folks on the XPS forums report, my Precision 5510 will not reboot - I get a "drive not found" error in the bios, then it shuts down. HOWEVER, if I do a cold boot, it boots up fine.

This would be a small inconvenience.... but unfortunately I've also found out that my computer CANNOT RESUME FROM SLEEP. If I enter sleep mode, either through closing lid or tapping power button, upon resume it just hangs on black screen for a while, then initiates a new boot. THIS is a deal-breaker for me because it means I have to close out of everything I do everytime I want to move. Obviously not okay.

Dell tells me that this is *clearly* a sign that my motherboard needs to be replaced. But due to the mis-identification of the past issues, as well as the current reboot problem, my guess is that this is NOT a motherboard issue and in fact an issue with the system BIOS not being able to handle the NVMe drive upon waking.

Anyone else have this experience with Sleep resume bug? Any suggestions?

Do you run windows 7 or 10. I have the same issue with windows 10 on a normal desktop. Cannot resume from sleep mode.

I had the restart bug when my was set up to AHCI. I made a bios upgrade and switched back to RAID and got slightly better speed results. Still have the standard M.2 PM disk installed running on with RST drivers.

That would be my advice: RAID mode with RST

same sleep issue with windows 10, also on my surface pro 4. I think it may be an OS issue.

have set lid-close action to hibernate.

and this keyboard continues to suck rocks.

I've done most of what you said here - switched to AHCI, installed the Samsung drivers to fix the blue screens. I disabled fastboot on Windows so it does a normal boot process. I have not had the issues resuming from sleep in Windows - in Linux, it pauses with a black screen for a few seconds, much longer than on other computers, while the graphics come up. Pretty sure it's the Intel driver. I had the "drive not found" problem exactly once - scary. Don't recall if I had done a reboot then or not. One thing I did notice is that if the computer boots too quickly after being shut down it sometimes freezes at the BIOS screen. You know how when you do a reboot, the power light switches off for a few seconds before it comes back on? It is "off" longer than on other computers I've owned. Maybe that's important. If I shut down and immediately turn it back on I've seen it freeze. I haven't had an issue if I turn it on cold.

I totally agree that the system feels beta. Physically it's pretty great but I really hope they sort out the hardware/software issues. It doesn't act "solid". Really hoping that it's mainly BIOS issues that can be resolved through updates.

I had all of these issues and ended up installing Windows 7 as it doesn't experience any of these bugs. Dell should be ashamed of sending out machines like this.

if it's win10's fault then you can't be too upset at them as win10 is a released product and many customers will insist on having it.

I, too, am considering reverting to win7.
