That is the way I would have expected it to be. Only the BIOS/UEFI-BIOS option in the order form made me investigate further.

I gotta say, Dell are not doing themselves any favors with the information they give out online and on the phone. When I expressed my incredulity about the two BIOS versions and the blocked upgrade path from SATA drive to M.2 the technical rep even laughed and said it might be a way to get customers to buy new notebooks earlier rather than later if an upgrade is impossible.

So, I would have to decide to ignore Dell supplied information and would order just an SATA drive while still expecting to get a notebook with UEFI-BIOS.

Can anyone here confirm this based on the purchase of a 5510 with SATA drive only?

Thank you very much for your reply. I promise I'll give this topic a rest now.

The guy is a complete idiot, and deserves to be fired on the spot. He is doing damage to Dell's business.

I bought without the M.2 drive and there is a UEFI option in the Boot sequence menu.

I installed a 950 pro, cloned the HDD onto it, and removed the HDD altogether. System runs fine.

Hey guys my 5510 arriving tomorrow and I'm out of the loop with cloning software. I need to clone my current 256GB setup 1:1 into the new machine.
    Any tips from you folks?

A starting point. Still works on modern Windows. Note if your old system uses legacy boot and your new one uses UEFI, you will have to switch the new one to legacy boot --- they need to match.

Hi, I'm interested in the 5510. Just registered to ask a couple of things:

With XPS 15, there's supposedly low-frequency PWM flicker on the FHD screen. Is the very same screen used in 5510 (hence the same problem)?

Except the dGPU, 5510 really is just an XPS 15, isn't it? The talk about a 'different motherboard' is an equivalence for 'the board is different because a different dGPU is soldered on it'. Or is it not?

Compared to the new Latitude E7470, which one would be more appropriate for basic use (word processing, Internet...)? I'd like to put my 1TB 850 pro in it, so the 5510 has the edge. Also, the 7470 is ridiculously priced. However, the 5510 has quite a lot of known problems. If it has the PWM flicker problem, I can't handle it.

If the T460p is cheap I'll probably get that one. I live in France, so no Dell outlet. T450s is by far cheaper than E7450 & half of M3800.

Currently, I'm still using my M6500 bought in 2010. Solid quality, but only SATA2, too big / heavy to move around (and desktop is always better at the desk). Mine also has some bluetooth compatibility issue when using multiple devices (seems common with old Dells).
