It's not bad news! It's a good reason to get familiar with the inside of the 5510. You will need a Torx T5 screwdriver plus a small Philips screwdriver for the two screws under the service tag flap but, once those screws are removed then the base comes off easily.

I would be worried by the thought of anything loose inside the notebook in case it is a screw which could short out the electronics if it gets into the wrong place.

I am trying to install windows 7 on my 9560 but get stuck in BSOD loop or hang trying to install it with the nvme driver, by any chance would a 5510 owner mind going to the download page and trying to grab a link for the ISO, you need to put in your service tag 1st or I would have done it.

If not could I use your tag to get the download? :)

    Thanks.

Putting aside the legalities of this, Dell only offers a Win 10 image for my 5510 (because that is what it was shipped with) and it also runs Dell System Detect after entering the tag number and before the download starts. I presume that if the computer isn't the right one then the download won't start.

Damn, thanks anyway. Legally as I am not after a licence (and have several spare for win7) it's only the same as downloading a generic windows 10 image :)

Newbie to forum here. Just got new Precision 5520. Getting a dbrand skin for the top monitor portion. Are the screens dimensions identical to the xps 15?

Looking around it seems like xps 15, 5510 and 5520 all are pretty much identical screens sizes and options. I thought I'd give it I shot in this forum instead of creating it's own thread.

And lastly does anybody make a matte clear skin for the monitor? Not going to use touch screen too much but want less glare.

The XPS15 95x0 and the Precision 55x0 are effectively the same except for the Precision's Quadro CPU (some people wonder if the Precisions are assembled more carefully since they seem to have fewer issues than the XPS but this may just be that the XPS users are more likely to push their computers to the performance limit and beyond).

I think the display panels are the same between the Skylake and Kaby Lake models in which case read this discussion about the anti-glare options for the XPS15 9550.

Agree completely, Kaby Lake is such a small incremental release particularly for higher end quad core CPU's. We're not even getting the not insignificant benefit of Pascal based Quadro's given that nVidia didn't release lower end quadro's based on Pascal in time for the 5520. The 5520 simply has a revised version of the same GPU with a clock speed bump.

Thanks guys. Did a lot of research on the differences on the features and internals, was crossing my fingers that the exterior stuff remained the same since the dbrand skins and screen protectors are measured down to the mm. It's a company issue, but I always personalize mine a little bit.

I contacted Dbrand support and they couldn't tell me if 5510 or 5520 were the same dimensions as xps 15. You think they would know this so they could sell more skins.

See the Dell specs: Precision 5520, XPS15 9560 and display and and compare with the XPS15 9550. You will see that the two generations XPS has identical dimensions for both the chassis and the display and the 5520 has the same as the 9560. So anything which fits the 9550 will be suitable the 5520. Basically, Dell just changed the mainboard and the 6 cell battery.
